LISD Families,

Welcome back to the new year! This month’s newsletter includes several important updates, and I highlight a few key items in my video message below. Please take a moment to watch and read through the information.

I want to take a moment to reiterate and clarify the changes to school start and end times approved by the Board at the January meeting. The 10 minutes being added to the student's instructional day allows the district additional minutes that can be used if we experience unexpected campus or district closures. The schedule shift affects student bell times, and campuses will adjust school schedules throughout the day either by slightly extending class times or passing period times.

Because next year’s academic calendar had already been approved, the Board was intentional about keeping all holidays, the first day of school, and the last day of school unchanged. While the number of school days is the same, the adjustment to total instructional minutes will give future calendar committees greater flexibility to consider additional break options or enhancements.

I look forward to an incredible spring semester, and thank you for choosing LISD!

2026-27 Start & End Times

At the January Board meeting, the LISD Board of Trustees approved lengthening the instructional day for students by 10 minutes beginning the 2026-27 school year. Additionally, the Board also approved adjusting the start time order by switching middle school and high school start times beginning next school year. Annual Facility Efficiency Audit

In the summer of 2024, district leaders convened the Community Efficiency Committee to help the district plan for the future amidst ongoing budget challenges resulting from lower student enrollment coupled with the legislature’s inaction to adjust public school funding formulas for inflation. The district will continue to analyze facility efficiency on an annual basis and will post updated data on the CEC website.

Families new to the district, including PreK and Kinder families, can now begin the enrollment process for students new to the district for next school year (2026-27). Families who need to request a transfer to attend another LISD school other than their zoned campus for next school year can do so through Feb. 13 in Skyward Family Access. An additional transfer window will open May 1 for limited circumstances, but families are encouraged to submit requests during this initial window to be considered for priority campus placement. For additional enrollment information, including important dates for LISD's Programs of Choice, view our enrollment newsletter HERE.

Virtual Learning in LISD

Every student’s goals, schedule, and learning style are unique, and their pathway should be too. Lewisville ISD offers distinct virtual and hybrid options that gives students the opportunity to personalize their learning journey, allowing them to balance coursework, extracurriculars, work, family commitments, or accelerated academic plans.

Inclement Weather Reminders

As we continue through the winter months, we want to provide some reminders should the district close school due to inclement weather. If school is canceled or delayed due to a weather-related event, parents and staff members will be notified the following ways:

LISD’s mobile app
Phone calls, texts and emails via LISD's callout system
- Update settings in Skyward Family Access
LISD.net - including all campus websites
LISD Social Media | Twitter and Facebook

Please note, the district does not send out emails or other forms of communication if there are no changes to the regular school day or after school activities.

It is possible for weather and road conditions to vary greatly across LISD, and the connectivity of our transportation system, which spans 127 square miles, impacts school closure decisions. We’re unable to make a decision for just one campus or area of our district, but rather must take into consideration all of the 13 different municipalities our district serves.

New Transportation App

LISD has begun using a new transportation app districtwide called StopFinder. LISD is no longer using the Here Comes the Bus app. Families eligible for transportation services in LISD should have received an email to complete their Stopfinder account setup. Students are also invited download the app and use their families shared schedule to keep track of their transportation. The app is now available in the LISD student App Store. To share the schedule:

Tap the ellipses menu on the upper right-hand corner of the student card for the student you wish to share.
Tap Share Schedule on the menu that opens at the bottom of the screen.
Enter the required fields on the Share Schedule screen and tap Share.

33rd Annual MLK Day Celebration Event

Join LISD students and staff for an evening of reflection and celebration during the 33rd annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day event, presented by the MLK of North Texas committee. The event will be hosted at the Marcus High School Arena on Monday, January 19 from 6-8 p.m. Winners of the art, essay, photography and 3D sculpture/ceramics contests will be recognized. LISD staff can earn one hour of trade credit for attending and completing a short reflection in Eduphoria. See this year's award winners and learn more at LISD.net/MLKDay.

Community Library Input Panel

The Community Library Input Panel (CLIP) will accept applications January 21 to February 20. The panel will have 17 to 20 people, divided into two groups: elementary and secondary. Panel members will include non-employee student parents, community members, classroom teachers, counselors, administrators, librarians, and students. If interested, please complete the application. For a preview of the application, click here.

Hedrick MS Community Playround

The new community playground at Hedrick Middle School is now complete and available for community use. This project is through a partnership between Lewisville ISD and the City of Lewisville. When it was determined in 2019 that Hedrick Elementary would not be rebuilt, the city and LISD created an agreement that the district would build a community playground on the new Hedrick Middle School property. Thank you for the incredible support of our voters who approved the 2023 bond that made this project possible.
