Principal's Message
June has arrived and the end of the school year is in sight. Students are excited and ready for summer break. We have had numerous events and field trips to celebrate all the many things we have done this year and several more are still happening until the end of June. Students have had swimming lessons and elementary track and field is a day to look forward to near the end of the school year.
While we are busy closing out the current school year, we are also busy planning things for next year. This is a process that starts in the spring and gains momentum as the end of the year approaches. One of the main tasks is to receive our budget and determine our staffing. For this, we establish our projected enrollment (which is a moving target based on new families moving in and the possibility of some families moving out). We have received both our teacher (FTE) staffing levels and our support staff (FTE) staffing levels. While our enrollment numbers seem to be slightly on the rise, we did undergo a reduction to both of these staffing levels. Our assigned teacher FTE dropped by 0.68 FTE and our support staff FTE dropped by 0.83. In addition, our Learning Commons Facilitator will undergo a slight reduction in FTE. These decisions are all made by BRSD and shared with school administration. As a school, our job (as school administrators) is then to determine how we are able to best set up and operate for the coming school year. We have been busy working on this and will soon have more information to share.
In relation to our staffing, we are sad to say that Dr. Tony Rice, Mrs. Caitlyn Prehn, Mrs. Chantal Johnson and Miss Jaida Prichard will not be returning to Forestburg School in the fall. We will miss them all next year. We would like to welcome our new Assistant Principal, Mrs. Janna Freadrich, who is currently the Assistant Principal at Killam School. We would also like to welcome back Mrs. Brooke Bauer, who was at Forestburg School a few years ago as a practicum teacher. She will fill the part-time position of Jr. High English Language Arts/Math and Options teacher.
For support staff, we welcome back Mrs. Rachelle Sveahun, who will be returning to Forestburg School in her position as an Educational Assistant (EA). Unfortunately, we do not have positions for Miss Brittyn Sveahun and Mrs. Rkaelyn Volk at this time. We will miss them as well as part of the Forestburg team.
I hope everyone has a wonderful end to the school year and an amazing summer break. Like many, I’m hopeful for a little rain to help settle the fire hazards and dry conditions. Stay tuned for more updates as we close out the current school year.
