Infinite Sparks: Exploring STEAM in Ayana's Memory Infinite Sparks: Exploring STEAM in Ayana's Memory

On March 15th we are kicking off our new STEAM lecture series. This series is in memory and honor of Ayana Walli, our beloved 4th grade student who passed away in March 2023 following a rare condition which she handled with high spirits against all odds. Those who knew Ayana well, including her teachers at MPE, knew how much she loved science, math, and the arts. This series is aimed to give our 4th and 5th grade students a feel for what those in the STEAM fields are able to achieve, by putting their passion to purpose in real life.

We are thrilled to welcome our first special guest, Priya Raina, who is also a local Livingston resident. Priya is Senior Vice President of Clinical Operations at AnaptysBio. AnaptysBio is a Biotech company that is researching and developing new medicines to help people recover from challenging diseases. Ms. Raina's job is to make sure all the clinical trials at AnaptysBio are conducted properly.

Clinical trials are like important science experiments done by scientists and researchers to test and learn about different treatments, to make sure they're safe and helpful for people with different diseases. Ms. Raina will chat with 4th and 5th graders about clinical trials, spill the beans on what goes into researching new medicines, and share her unique story of how she landed such a cool job. She earned her undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering from Columbia University and a Master’s Degree in Biotechnology from the University of Pennsylvania! We hope to inspire our students, for them to be curious, and maybe even discover their own path to a super STEAM job in the future!

Cultural Celebrations! Cultural Celebrations!

zoom_out_map

After a fun filled Hispanic Heritage celebration early this year, the Cultural Celebrations Committee is excited to bring another event to get everyone grooving. Hip-Hop recently celebrated its 50th birthday. And who doesn't like Hip Hop? Hip-Hop is woven into television and film, fashion, advertising, literature, politics and countless other corners of everyday life. It is lingua franca, impossible to avoid, and truly multicultural in today's times.

To be a class presenter and engage students with an activity celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Hip-Hop, please sign up HERE

Did you know that there are nearly 60 countries and cultures represented in the MPE Community?

At MPE, we want to celebrate what makes us different! Please join us as we help our children explore the world and all of the cultures at MPE! The Cultural Celebrations Committee facilitates several exciting celebrations observing various global cultures & traditions represented at MPE. This is made possible with help from amazing parent volunteers & presenters who run the show. The presenters deliver a short lesson followed by a hands-on experience (craft, game, dance, etc). It's imperative that parents lead by example through engaging in presentations of various cultures, not just their own. The presentations and activities are pre-created, reviewed and approved by the Cultural Celebrations Committee and its volunteers in partnership with the school administration

Due to rising payment processing interchange fees and increased operational costs, MySchoolBucks is adjusting the per-transaction program fee for school meals to $3.25 for each credit/debit card payment beginning on March 7. If you do not want to pay this per-transaction fee, you have the option of sending in a check made payable to the LPS Cafeteria Account into school with your child. Place checks in an envelope marked "Cafeteria." Checks must include your child's name and student ID number listed in the memo column so that the money is placed in the correct account.
