Principal's Message
Dear Families,
Election Day is Tuesday, and Hopkins has two questions on the ballot and three seats up for election on the school board. Have you voted? Do you know where your polling location is? Make sure your voice is heard on November 4! You can learn more about where to vote at this link, and more about the referendum on our website.
We hope to see all families participating in the upcoming election, exercising their civic freedom, and helping shape the future of our schools and community.
Best,
Principal Mattei

🎉 Congratulations Hopkins Middle School boys cross-country team
Hopkins Middle School boys cross-country team won the State Championship this year (for the second year in a row). It was a resounding victory: Hopkins had 4 of the top ten finishers. This meet capped off an exceptional season: the 6th and 7th grade boys were entirely undefeated the entire season!
The Middle School Cross Country Girls Team placed 12th in the state!
Congrats to all!
Congratulations to Kim Campbell!
We’re thrilled to celebrate Kim Campbell, who was recently awarded an HEF Spark Grant for her innovative 8th grade Crew curriculum, “Things I Wish They Taught in School.” Born from student feedback, this project empowers learners with real-world skills like resume writing, goal setting, financial literacy, job readiness, budgeting, and effective communication—preparing students not just for school, but for life beyond it.
Halloween Joy at West!
A huge shoutout to all the teachers and students who joined in the Halloween fun at West! Your creativity, costumes, and school spirit brought so much laughter and energy to our halls. Moments like these—when we can be a little silly and see a different side of one another—help strengthen the connections that make our school community so special. Thank you for keeping the magic of childhood alive and showing that joy and learning can go hand in hand!

Policies/Expectations
📱 Reminder: West Cell Phone Policy & Violation Progression
Now that we are almost two months into the school year, I want to remind families of the West Middle School Cell Phone Policy. Students are not allowed to have cell phones, headphones, or earbuds out from the first bell in the morning until the last bell at the end of the day.
This includes lunch, transitions, and hallways.
Please take a moment to review the violation progression below and talk with your student about this policy. Thank you for helping us create a focused and connected learning environment for all students.
Cell Phone & Headphone Violation Progression:
- 1–3 Offenses: Phone is confiscated and returned at the end of the day. (Resets each quarter.)
- 4th Offense: SEST or an administrator calls home.
- 5th Offense: Student checks in their phone each morning for 5 days.
- 6th Offense: Phone held for parent pickup. Parent contacted.
SRP (Safety Response Protocol) at West
At West Middle School , the safety and security of our students and staff are a top priority. See our protocols here.
Outside Food Policy
At Hopkins West Middle School, parents are not permitted to bring outside food for their students, and students are not allowed to order food from outside the school during school hours. Read here for more info.
Early Pick-Up Guidelines
We understand that sometimes early pick-ups are unavoidable. However, please keep the following in mind:
Early dismissals disrupt student learning. Please schedule appointments before or after school whenever possible.
Avoid picking up your student during the last 30 minutes of the school day—this is the busiest and most disruptive time for the school.
If an early pick-up is necessary, please notify the school in advance. 952-988-4410
Thank you for supporting our students’ learning by minimizing disruptions during the school day.
