Introduction Introduction

Hi, WCUUSD educators--

I'll keep this short and sweet as we close out the school year. Simply put, I wish you all a restful and rejuvenating summer.

Warmly,

Jen

June Update

Our final meeting of the year took place on June 8.

We reviewed the list of people who have expressed interest in attending Curriculum Camp this summer. Some folks will design units of study aligned with the Education Quality Standards. Others will design the professional learning modules that we will implement across elementary schools this summer. We are really excited to have a very clear plan about what that professional learning will look like going into next year.

We encourage teachers to complete our annual Local Comprehensive Assessment Plan (LCAP) survey between now and June 17. The results will inform next year’s LCAP.

Finally, we spent a lot of time reflecting on our work this past year. We identified strengths, celebrated accomplishments, identified areas for improvement, and generated ideas about next steps. We are proud of the work we did this year and we are looking forward to making it even better next year.

June Update

At our last meeting of the year we reflected on the year: what went well, what we can improve, projects in progress, and ongoing challenges. When students joined us during callback we reviewed the student-friendly version of the Humanity and Justice Vision Statement that was created by a middle school teacher and students and we generated ideas about our goals for next year.

We took time to acknowledge and honor the work of Shelley Vermilya, our scholar-in-residence. We are so grateful to have worked together. What a journey!

Reminder: i-Ready Changes for Next Year

Next year the i-Ready Diagnostic for reading and math will be renamed i-Ready Inform. i-Ready Inform will be a shorter assessment than the i-Ready Diagnostic, while retaining its reliability and validity.

If you administer i-Ready and are interested in learning more about the changes, you can log into your i-Ready account to access the templates below:

  • The shift to the i-Ready Inform name and the shortening of the assessment
  • Just the shift to the i-Ready Inform name

We will communicate the changes to families and students in the fall.

Resources for License Renewal

As indicated last month, summer is a great time to take stock of your current professional licensure renewals and to plan ahead for what you might need in order to fulfill renewal requirements. The AOE has plenty of resources on its website and our Local Standards Board also maintains a robust and helpful website. Please check out both resources and plan ahead for your renewal. Do not wait until spring of your renewal year to enter your professional learning activities or to complete coursework. Complete everything well in advance of your renewal date!

Again, I want to offer enormous thanks to our tireless LSB members! They include:

  • Berlin: Lynn Wagner (co-chair)
  • Calais: Lauralea Curavoo
  • Doty: Maureen McDermet
  • East Montpelier: Claire Gallagher
  • Rumney: Diana Costello
  • U-32: Brian Divelbliss, Erin Mooney, and Rebecca Sweeney

Please note: After many years of dedicated service Brian Divelbliss will not be serving as an LSB member for U-32 next year. We are looking for a third member from U-32!
