WEEKLY RECAP
We had another great week at Hills! Here are some highlights:
In Art Exploration, students created Abstract Self-Portraits that creatively expressed their personalities and identities.
In Sources of Strength, students reflected on the eight strengths and shared how they are growing and excelling in each area.
Advanced 8th grade ELA students also welcomed a speaker from Garmin, who discussed the importance of critical thinking skills when navigating artificial intelligence.
ATHLETICS
Boys Basketball
The Boys' Basketball team entered the district tournament on Wednesday evening as the number 2 seed. After a close competition, the Knights fell to the Wolves of Indian Hills. During the next round of competition, the boys beat Westridge for Third Place in the district.
Congrats on a great season Knights!
Girls Basketball
If you played Girls Basketball this school year for IHMS, you are invited to a post-season pizza party on Wednesday, March 4th from 4:00-4:30! The late bus will be available afterwards. Please bring your uniform if you have not yet turned it in. We’re looking forward to celebrating you and your amazing season!
Girls Soccer
Girl’s Soccer tryouts begin on Monday, March 2nd! Girls who wish to participate in tryouts should meet in the Main Gym after school on Monday. You can sign up for tryouts HERE on the soccer webpage.
If you wish to participate in tryouts - make sure you have your physical completed before tryouts! Use this LINK to access athletic participation forms.
Come support your Knights in action! Check out the full calendar of events HERE!
ATTENDANCE
Skipping “just one day” might not seem like a big deal… but those days add up FAST.
Here’s what really happens when you miss class:
- You miss the explanation — Not everything is in the notes or online
- You fall behind on assignments — Late work = extra stress
- Group work keeps moving without you
- Tests and quizzes build on what you missed
- Catching up takes WAY more time than staying caught up
Even strong students struggle when they’re not in the room. Showing up every day keeps you confident, connected, and on track.
Real talk: It’s easier to stay caught up than to catch up.
Parents & Community — your encouragement matters! Helping students prioritize attendance builds habits that last a lifetime.
CHARACTER STRONG
7th Grade: Acting with Empathy
8th Grade: Building an Emotions Toolbox
Family CharacterDare: Thank You for Your Service
As a family, write handwritten thank you notes to leave for the person who delivers your mail and/or picks up the garbage.
Think creatively about how to leave your message, like using string to hang it somewhere nearby or creating a larger note/poster. Practicing gratitude as a family not only leaves the recipient feeling good, but helps the family feel accomplished for making someone’s day better.
CLUB HIGHLIGHTS
LEGO Club is in Full Build Mode!
LEGO Club is the perfect place for students who love to create, design, and build! Students can choose to work on LEGO sets or free build their own original creations. Whether they prefer to collaborate with friends or work independently, there’s space for everyone to build in a way that fits their style. We keep it fun and relaxed, and yes, there are snacks! LEGO Club meets every other Tuesday from 3:45–4:30 PM, and our next club date is 3/10. Creativity, teamwork, and imagination make LEGO Club a highlight of the week!
MUSICAL CREW MEETING
We will have an informational meeting for students interested in joining musical crew during Knight Time on Friday, March 6th. Students do not need a travel pass to attend this meeting. Join us in the cafeteria after the travel bell. Information for families and a sign up sheet will be sent home from this meeting.
