Dear DCES Families,

Happy Friday! Wow, what another hot week on campus.

I wanted to share a special thank you to the parents who supported our DonorsChoose Library Project. On Double Donation Day, every dollar given was matched by DonorsChoose! Thanks to your generosity, our library will receive brand-new books every single month for the next year. Thank you so much for supporting our Library Media Technician and helping bring exciting new reads to our school library.

Speaking of support, our Health Tech is currently in need of snack- or sandwich-sized plastic Ziploc bags to make ice packs for our students. We go through a lot of baggies each week, so if you’re able to donate, please drop off a box or two at the front office.

Our students have also been loving lunchtime visits from our Westview and Mt. Carmel High School Ambassadors! For those unfamiliar with the program, high school seniors who excel as role models have the opportunity to serve as school ambassadors. They visit local schools to work with our students, support our DC leaders, put on fun skits for Funky Fridays, and hang out during lunch. It’s a wonderful way for our kids to connect with positive youth role models in our community.

On Monday Oct. 12th these students will be having lunch with me at the lunch tables. They can get a school lunch or bring lunch from home. I will be out there to eat lunch with them. Preschool: Krew. K, Kindergarten: Jiyu K., 1st Grade: Amar P., Bella Q., 2nd Grade:Zoe G., Austin T., Samradhya K., 3rd Grade: Nora E., & 5th Grade: Chace C., Luna K.

We truly appreciate all the support you give our school. Have a fantastic weekend! Go enjoy the outdoors, step away from the screens, and encourage your child to dive into some imaginative, unstructured playtime.

See you all on Monday!

Mrs. Gordon

Through our schoolwide Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program, Caught Being Kind, students are recognized by a staff member for exemplifying respect for themself, others, or the environment. I am excited to share with you the names of individuals who were Caught Being Kind last week!

Family Heritage Night is TONIGHT!!! Friday,Oct 9th, 5:00 - 7:30pm

Each year, DC students and families get to “take a trip around the world” in one night here at the Deer Canyon MPR.

DC families set up tables with information about their country’s heritage, artifacts, and food samples. There are also multicultural performances and kids’ fashion shows to enjoy. It’s a great way to celebrate and learn about the rich cultural tapestry here at Deer Canyon.

This is a FREE event for our families, see you there!

• Tuesday, October 13 | 10:00 AM–11:00 PM
• Shake Shack One Paseo

It’s a minimum day, so once school gets out at 1:00 PM, show your Deer Canyon spirit and head over to Shake Shack for a delicious burger, fries, or shake!
