Backpack Program
Each year, we partner with Communities in Schools of Puyallup to provide food for students in need. Students take easy to prepare foods home for the weekend in their backpacks, hence the name "Backpack Program." We will resume delivering food to local elementary schools in September. We are still looking for one more volunteer who can deliver bags on Thursdays or serve as a backup. Contact Morningstar in the parish for more information.
PREPARES
A grant from PREPARES allows us to distribute diapers to families with little ones through our food bank. In July, 14 families received diapers and wipes. An additional grant from PREPARES funded by Light the World Giving Machines, allowed us to give 5 families PREPARES bags filled with clothes, diapers, wipes, toys, and books. Thank you to our Columbiettes who also donated additional items to fill the bags! Later this fall, our parish family is planning to host a community baby shower for some expectant mothers in need. Stay tuned for more details about how you can be involved!

Jubilee Year Pilgrimage - Saturday, October 4
Catholics from across Western Washington will make a pilgrimage to the detention center to demonstrate solidarity and express hope and compassion for detainees and all immigrants. We welcome and encourage all people of goodwill and faith traditions to join us!
In the spirit of the Jubilee year of hope, Catholics throughout Western Washington are called to be pilgrims of hope. As part of Catholic social teaching, we express this hope by praying for, being in solidarity with, and showing compassion for immigrants.
Please consider supporting Advocates for Immigrants in Detention Northwest (AIDNW), a local organization that supports immigrants in detention and welcomes them on their release. Among the many ways you can support includes helping AIDNW to provide much needed phone funds to detainees. Go to https://aidnw.org/donate/ or volunteer for their Pen Pal and Visitation programs by contacting operationsmgr@aidnw.org. In conjunction with the pilgrimage, we are also collecting puzzles, backpacks, and paperback books (especially Vietnamese and other Asian Pacific languages). Please bring donated items to St. Leo the Great on October 4th.

Journey of Faith (OCIA)
Journey of Faith is for those seeking to learn more about the Catholic faith and wanting to receive the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist as an adult. Our family track also helps families prepare for kids and teens (4th grade and older) to prepare for these sacraments. Our weekly gatherings start in September. Contact Morningstar in the parish office for more information.
Are you interested in being a sponsor? We have several couples going through the process. What a great way to serve with your spouse! You must be 16 or older, confirmed, and if married, married in the church. Please contact Morningstar for more information.
Global Solidarity
Urgent Relief Needed in the Holy Land
Gaza’s families are enduring conditions of catastrophic collapse as hostilities escalate and basic elements for survival vanish. Death from starvation and severe malnutrition have been rising daily. Families and civilians are grappling with death, injury, forced displacement, and deep psychological trauma.
At the same time, Syria stands at a critical crossroads following the collapse of its government in December 2024, marking the end of a 50-year regime. For many, this moment signals a potential new beginning—yet, uncertainty looms over the Syria’s future.
Catholic Relief Services and local partners have been providing critical assistance. Learn more here.
