Principal Simpson's Message

Greetings PRM Families,

May flowers are in bloom, and we are finishing the year strong with all of our learners. The support we have felt this year is unmatched. We thank you for encouraging our staff and advocating for the needs of our students and community. We especially want to thank our entire community for wrapping the students of Room 1133 and the family of Uriel Simmone Brooks in love during this devastating time of grief and loss. Please continue to keep the family in your thoughts and prayers.

As we prepare to bring this school year to a close, know that we have consistently focused on providing high-quality instruction while supporting the social and emotional needs of our students. Our summer learning program will highlight specific skills and help further to prepare our students for the next grade level. We will also be providing every student with a copy of the Summer Bridge Activities book for their rising grade level. These books will be distributed by the last day of school. It is our hope that whether attending summer learning at PRM or participating in other enrichment experiences, students will be ready for school in the Fall.

Thank you for helping us celebrate our amazing teachers, school staff, and all of the partners and volunteers that make our school community so awesome throughout this month. Thank you for helping us to grow through all of the changes and challenges we have faced since the initial school closure due to Covid-19 in March of 2020. This is the best school community and I am proud to lead us on the path forward. PRM, you ROCK!

Love,

Principal Simpson

School Uniform Policy

Please support us by honoring our school uniform policy. We have a very liberal uniform policy that offers a variety of choices and encourages school spirit. We are noticing many students who are coming to school out of uniform each day. All students in grades K-6 are required to be in uniform every day unless a special dress day has been communicated to families.

During the winter months, classrooms may be cool. Students are not permitted to wear coats in the classroom. Solid color sweatshirts or PRM sweatshirts are permitted.

Please refer to the attachment below for pictures of what is and is not allowed. You may also refer to the full uniform policy on pgs. 3-6 of the Student Handbook.

Student Devices--Summer Instructions

  1. All students that are planning to return to CPS for the 22-23 school year or are participating in CPS summer programs should keep their assigned device.
  2. Schools should not collect ANY devices in mass. Individual exceptions are for parents/guardians who do not want their students to have a summer device.
  3. Parents/guardians who do not wish for their child to keep their device over the summer should instruct their child to return their device to their teacher or main office prior to leaving for the summer. The teacher or main office will then turn the collected device over to the Building Technology Coordinator.

  4. For computer support over the summer families should continue to contact the Family Technology Support Center at 513-363-0688 Monday through Friday 8 am to 6 pm or email fts@cps-k12.org.

Cincinnati Public Schools is now a one-to-one device district. Every student has been assigned a device for use to support and enhance instruction.

The devices are the property of Cincinnati Public Schools. The Acceptable Use Policy is reviewed with students and has been included below. All activity on the devices is monitored for content and safety. Please support us by monitoring student use at home to ensure that it is school-related. Personal devices should be used for leisure and game playing.

Students are being charged for damages and lost chargers. Chargers for both laptops and iPads are $50. Damages to screens, spills on the keyboard - any damage that is determined to not be accidental, will be charged to their student fees. Please refer to the AUP/MDA that all students sign at the beginning of the year.

3-6 News

3-6 Update:

It is hard to believe that we are into May. Hopefully, the weather will be cooperative. Some classrooms await the butterflies to emerge from their chrysalides. Our rising 1st graders will be participating in transition day, along with the other groups transitioning to a new level for next school year. Your student will get to visit their classroom community for next year.

On May 17th, all Kindergarten classes will take a field trip to the Zoo to see the animals of various continents. This will tie into our geography studies from the year. We hope to take part in some Field Day fun on Tuesday, May 24th with the rest of the school. Various communities will engage in their own end-of-the-year celebrations. Your classroom teacher will communicate with you about those.

6-9 News

6-9 Update:

Thank you PTO for the yummy Taco lunch on conference day.

Many of our 6-9 classrooms acquired caterpillars which have formed into chrysalis’s and for many classrooms have now emerged as butterflies. The kiddos were extremely excited to follow the different stages of the butterfly.

We are excited to welcome our current k’s (rising 1st graders) and to send our 3rd graders off on transition day on May 13th. This event is for students only.

Our final 6-9 field trip is May 25th to the Zoo. *Some 6-9 classes are having individual class field trips (look for teacher communication)

Reminders:

  • Some of our classrooms are hot while others are freezing, be sure to dress your kiddos with school appropriate layers (i.e. light jacket or sweatshirt over a t-shirt)
  • School list for next year will be coming soon
  • Water bottles: Please send your kiddos to school with water bottles as the weather outside starts to heat up.

  • May marks the beginning of Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage month. This is a great time to pay tribute to Asian and Pacific Islanders who have enriched America’s history and are instrumental in its success

9-12 News

9-12 Update:

The ages 9-12 students are well into the application stage of their learning from this school year. Many classes are doing culminating projects and group presentations to share their growth and experiences with their peers.

As we continue to enhance the Montessori learning experience for our learners, we have been implementing the Montessori scope and sequence pilot since January. We will finish the year with a strong outlook for next year. We have three teachers who will begin Montessori training and will continue to support the success of our team through our continuous efforts to grow as a Montessori learning community.

We will say farewell to our 6th graders as they transition to 7th grade. We look forward to celebrating their time here at PRM as they go off to do great things in high school.

We want to thank this awesome community for celebrating us during Staff/Teacher Appreciation Week. You made us feel so special and valued!
