CATCHING UP WITH... Mrs. Edmonston
Dear Coyote Families,
It was another fantastic week at Canyon View Elementary! On Wednesday, our Westview Ambassadors joined us for a Character Assembly focused on the CVES CARES rule: Respect Others. Students watched a skit about respect and learned a chant to help remember to show respect. Also at that assembly, we celebrated earning California State Recognition for our Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports Program (PBIS)! PUSD Assistant Director of Attendance and Engagement Mr. Gallego joined us to celebrate this accomplishment. Then on Thursday, students enjoyed another VAPA Vision Day, exploring creativity through art, music, and movement. Finally, on Friday, or First Grade went on a field trip to the Poway Performing Arts Center to see a performance of The Sound Of Music. What a special treat!
We’re looking forward to another exciting week ahead! On Tuesday, we have a school holiday in observance of Veteran's Day. On Friday, Our fifth graders are heading to JA BizTown for an exciting hands-on learning experience! This immersive field trip allows students to step into real-world roles such as running businesses, managing finances, and making decisions as citizens and consumers. It’s a great opportunity for students to apply what they’ve learned about economics, responsibility, and teamwork in a fun and memorable way. We can’t wait to see our future leaders in action!
Let's Make it a GREAT week!
Warmly,
Erica Edmonston

Interested in Visiting or Volunteering at Canyon View?
We love our volunteers! To get started, complete the Level 1 Volunteer Application for Canyon View Elementary at bit.ly/CVESVolunteer or click here (includes TB clearance and Megan’s Law check).
Some roles—like coaching, robotics, or working with students unsupervised—require Level 2 clearance. To obtain or renew Level 2 status, complete the Level 1 steps first, then request a Level 2 form from our office and complete fingerprinting at the PUSD District Office.
If you are visiting campus for a short time—such as attending an assembly, performance, class party or meeting—you do not need to register as a volunteer; simply check in at the front office as a visitor.

Garden Volunteers Needed
This is a fun, flexible way to get involved. Volunteers will:
- Present short, hands-on garden lessons (about 20 minutes) to students.
- No experience necessary! You don't need to be a garden pro or a certified teacher! We provide the materials.
- The days and times are flexible and will be coordinated individually with you and the teachers.
- All volunteers must be cleared through the school/district system. We'd love to have Level 2 volunteers who are cleared to work independently with groups, but we can happily accommodate Level 1 volunteers as well!
Interested in helping our school garden thrive? Contact Terri at terri.l.lane@gmail.com or call 619-861-6427.

Never Play Music Right Next to the Zoo, written by John Lithgow, illustrated by Leeza Hernandez
As we honor Veteran’s Day on 11/11, it’s an ideal time to talk about the veterans in our lives – family, friends and community members who have sacrificed for us all. The picture book Veterans: Heroes in Our Neighborhood reminds us that a hero isn't necessarily a stranger who lives far away. Our neighbor, the grocer, our coach -- all could be a part of the growing and honorable group of heroes – veterans who don't wear badges or medals on their regular work clothes, but carry their legacy of service to our country. This book builds awareness of and appreciation for these unassuming heroes who work and walk among us daily.
