Snow, snow and more snow! What a COLD week it has been and more snow is expected this weekend! This is just in time for our Winter Activity Day. Staff have been working hard to plan opportunities for our students to get outside and enjoy all that winter has to offer from sledding and snowshoeing to s'mores and snow sculptures! Please stay tuned as I will be watching the temperature and the conditions closely to make sure Monday (2/2) is the best day for us to be outside. If it is not we will plan to do this the following week.

This week starts the third quarter! Report cards from second quarter will be going home with your child this afternoon. I can't believe we are halfway through our academic year already.

We are already looking ahead and planning for next year in many ways. Last week our eighth graders completed paperwork for high school enrollment and parents attended a virtual information session from our anchor high school on Wednesday night. Students are excited for their field trip to Fall Mountain Regional High School which will be happening next Friday! Next week a new session of library club will also begin. Please click here if you are interested in signing up your 3rd-8th grader for Session 4! We are just a few weeks away from February Break! Stay healthy and warm everyone!

HERE For The Party!

At the end of the first quarter Ms. Croteau announced an attendance incentive for students. She reminded students not to come to school when they were legitimately sick but wanted them to make it a priority to be here as much a possible. At the end of second quarter she would reward the class with the highest attendance rate with a pizza party! In order to level the playing field she used a percentage-based method to calculate the amount of time students in each class were present. Tardies and dismissals were also factored into the attendance formula. Sixth grade "took the cake" with an impressive 96% attendance rate! They enjoyed a pizza party with Ms. Croteau during lunch this past Wednesday. Will they defend their title for the third quarter? To be continued...

Middle School Health Class Update

Just a reminder from Nurse Jessamyn that beginning in February, middle school health class will be learning about life stages, puberty and hygiene topics. A letter went out to parents of middle school students via email a few weeks ago. If you did not receive this communication please contact Nurse Jessamyn at jdelude@sau71.org.

The Final "Buzz" On Our Spelling Bee

We held our annual Scripp's Spelling Bee yesterday afternoon. I want to congratulate Aurora (3rd), Weston (4th), Declan (5th), Maylin (6th), Ainsley (7th) and Dena (8th) who competed in front of their peers after winning the semifinals the previous week! This year Ms. Tremblay, Ms. Magurk and Ms. Fritz were our readers and judges. After seven rounds, it was down to Ainsley and Maylin and the title of Spelling Bee Champ was awarded to Ainsley Ash! In addition to bragging rights here at LCS, she will be moving on to the regionals this spring and competing against students from other schools! Best of luck Ainsley!
