PK students will take an exciting field trip to the elementary school they will attend for kindergarten next year! During the visit, students will meet some new faces they will see next year, explore a kindergarten classroom, see where special classes take place, and get a glimpse of their new school in action. This fun experience helps students become familiar with their new school and build excitement for the year ahead. In order for your child to participate, they will need to return the permission slip that has already been sent home.

  • All children will be buckled into a 5-point harness on the school bus.

  • Students must have a permission form to attend the field trip.

  • This field trip is reserved for staff and students, and we will not have parent attendance.

  • Please sign below and return the below portion to your child’s teacher.

  • This is a one time opportunity due to students going to a specific school. Students must be on time and in attendance to visit their upcoming school.

  • Students attending Price will not be taking a bus due to proximity to EC. They will walk to Price.

major/minor school wide behavior system major/minor school wide behavior system

Teaching and expecting positive behavior is critical for maintaining a positive learning environment in the classroom and throughout the building. At Republic Early Childhood, we proactively teach positive behaviors (social skills and work habits) through:

  • Setting clear behavior expectations in each building setting

  • Conducting Brain Smart Start lessons that teach and reinforce established district social skills

  • Providing intentional social-emotional lessons

  • Social stories

  • Offering positive reinforcement for positive behaviors

Why this matters in early childhood:

Early childhood is a critical time for children to develop foundational social and emotional skills and to learn how to be part of a school community. Skills like following directions, cooperating with peers, managing emotions, and solving problems respectfully are not just expectations — they are taught, practiced, and reinforced daily. By learning these skills early, children build confidence, develop positive habits, and are better prepared for success as they move into elementary school and beyond. Early exposure to clear routines, expectations, and social learning helps them understand how school works, laying the groundwork for a lifelong love of learning.

Teachers and staff are continuously teaching students positive behaviors. However, when students exhibit behaviors that negatively impact learning, safety, or the ability to maintain a positive classroom-school culture, EC responds to the misbehavior using a Minors-Major (ODR) discipline system. Minors are handled at the classroom level for behavior that is off-task and/or disruptive, but not severe. The teacher issuing the minor has a conference with the student to discuss the behavior and strategies to improve upon the skill needing improvement. Parents are notified each time a minor is issued to their student.

When a student exhibits a more severe behavior, a Major-ODR (Office Discipline Referral) is issued to the building principals. The principals investigate the incident and administer discipline per the board-adopted district discipline scope and sequence (consequence options). Major-ODRs are issued when a behavior is more severe or the student has received 5 minors. See pages 127-135 of the Student Handbook to view the scope and sequence. Principals will contact a parent/guardian when an ODR occurs.

Should you have any questions about these systems, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or administration.
