Golden Hill Elementary Recognized as America's Healthiest Schools!!
We are proud to announce that our school has been recognized as one of America’s Healthiest Schools! This national recognition celebrates schools that are taking meaningful steps to create healthier environments where students can learn, grow, and thrive. Our school was recognized in the Healthy School topic area for our commitment to supporting the health and well-being of our students and school community. We are incredibly proud of this achievement and grateful to our students, families, teachers, and staff who make this work possible. We look forward to building on this success and continuing to strengthen a culture of health and wellness at our school.
Important Reminders for Families
Dear Families,
As we begin the school year, we would like to remind everyone that our school is a closed campus. These procedures are in place to help ensure the safety and security of all of our students.
Please keep the following arrival reminders in mind:
- In the morning, family members may walk their child only as far as the stairs. From the stairs, students should continue independently with their class.
- Family members should not walk beyond the designated area unless they have received prior permission from the school.
- All visitors MUST check in with the office. Please coordinate with classroom teacher if you are volunteering in the classroom.
- The staff parking lot is for staff members only. Families should not park or drop off in the staff parking lot.
- The exception is for individuals with a valid disability placard, who may use designated accessible parking spaces as appropriate.
We appreciate your cooperation and support in following these procedures. Working together helps us maintain a safe, orderly, and welcoming environment for all of our students.
Thank you for your understanding and partnership.
Children's Dental will be coming for dental exams for TK -K, and sealant services for students from Grades 1-3. Date TBD. The services are all free. The dental exam for Tk -K are conducted under passive consent. Unless parents notify the health office that they do not want their child to receive the service, students will be receiving the services. For students from Grades 1-3, parents will have to turn in the permission slips for free dental exam and sealant service. The services will be provided at the school, so the parents do not have to take the kids out of school for dental care.
For TK -K to refuse the service, please call health office 619-236-5600 during school hours (please do not leave voicemail), email ylu@sandi.net & rcruzlopez@sandi.net, or visit the health office to inform in person.

Carpool Connection
🚗We know transportation can sometimes be a challenge! The Golden Hill Family Carpool Connection is a community resource designed to help connect families who need transportation support with families who may be able to offer a ride.
Please complete this form if you are looking for carpool support, are willing to help another family with transportation, or both. Link to form: Family Carpool Connection
A volunteer will review responses and help connect families whose schedules and locations may be a good match. Families can then communicate directly to decide whether the arrangement works for everyone.
Please note: This is a parent - to - parent community resource. Completing this form does not guarantee a match or transportation. 🚙
Call for Support Letters for Golden Hill Recreation Center
Golden Hill Recreation Center is a close partner of our school and an important part of the Golden Hill community. Recent cuts to the Rec Center’s hourly staffing budget are already affecting programs available to local families.
At Golden Hill Elementary, the Rec Center’s Wednesday after-school Sports & Crafts programs have been canceled. The cuts may also impact free community events traditionally offered by the Rec Center, including the Halloween Carnival, Winter Festival, and Spring Egg Hunt.
We know these programs and events are important to many families in our community. For anyone who would like to share feedback with Councilmember Stephen Whitburn about the impact of these cuts, we’ve included the City’s contact form below, along with a sample message that can be used or adapted.

San Diego Unified Phone Free District
Here at Golden Hill we had implemented a phone free policy as early as last year because we understand how phones can disrupt the learning environment. We are pleased that our district recently adopted a phone-free school day policy, developed in accordance with California's Phone-Free School Act (Assembly Bill 3216), which establishes guidelines designed to reduce interruptions to learning, foster in-person connection among peers and support healthy boundaries with technology. The state law requires all public school districts to adopt policies by July 1, 2026, making San Diego Unified an early adopter.
Please see the attached letter that will also be sent to families through our unified communications.

Birthdays and Celebrations
A birthday and/or celebration is a wonderful event for a child and we love to celebrate. Yet, we do have to adhere to our district wellness policy. In accordance with the district guidelines, please see a list of district approved snacks and District Wellness Policy.
If you wish to celebrate your child's birthday at school, please check with your child's teacher on classroom celebrations for minimal classroom interruptions to schedules.
