Pre-CCI Coaching visit Feb. 28th - AVID Representatives will be in the building!
Our campus earned certification last year as an AVID Secondary and AVID Schoolwide campus. AVID Secondary refers to the AVID Elective classes that students choose to enroll in beginning their freshman year (AVID 1) and continuing in the AVID pathway through their senior year (AVID 4). The classes focus on a curriculum that integrates WICOR (writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading) to build student learning and performance.
AVID Schoolwide requires campuses to impact all students by providing classroom activities, teaching practices, and academic behaviors that can be incorporated into any classroom to improve engagement and success for all students.
Each year, AVID campuses are required to participate in a certification visit, led by the Dallas ISD AVID District Coordinator to determine if the campus successfully implemented both the AVID Elective and Avid Schoolwide. To earn certification, AVID Campuses must implement the program with fidelity and collect authentic evidence.
Write to Learn and Annotating the Text
Our campus AVID goal is to annotate the text. To annotate means to add markings, notes, questions, comments, and observations to the text you are reading. Students often combine annotating with writing.
