Principal's Message
A New Chapter at TLES! 🦅
Dear TLES Families,
I am incredibly honored and excited to share that I have been selected as the new principal of Temecula Luiseño Elementary School! Having served as your assistant principal, I have already had the privilege of getting to know so many of our wonderful students, families, and staff. TLES has become a very special place to me, and I couldn't be more excited to continue this journey in my new role.
Today is also a bittersweet day as we say farewell to Mrs. Hernandez, who is beginning an exciting new chapter at Great Oak High School. I want to take a moment to thank her for her leadership, dedication, and the love she has poured into our school community. She has made a lasting impact on TLES, and I am personally grateful for the opportunity to have worked alongside her and learned from her. We wish her all the best in her new role!
As we celebrate Mrs. Hernandez's contributions and look toward the future, I wanted to take this opportunity to share a little more about myself and my hopes for our school. For those who may not know much about my background, I began my career in education in 2003 and have had the opportunity to serve as a classroom teacher, instructional coach, and assistant principal. I've taught a variety of elementary grade levels, supported teachers across multiple schools, and worked with some amazing educators throughout Temecula Valley Unified School District. These experiences have shaped my belief that strong relationships, high expectations, and meaningful learning experiences are the foundation of a successful school.
On a more personal note, I am a wife, mom to six adult children, and proud grandma to twin grandchildren! Family is incredibly important to me, and I understand the trust you place in us each day when you send your children to school. It is a responsibility I take to heart.
As your principal, my priority is to ensure that every student feels safe, valued, connected, and challenged to reach their full potential. I believe great schools are built through strong partnerships between families, teachers, staff, and students. I want TLES to be a place where children love coming to school, teachers feel supported, and families know they are an important part of our school community.
I am excited about what lies ahead for our Eagles! We have an incredible staff, wonderful students, and a supportive community. I truly believe that when we work together, there is no limit to what our students can accomplish.
Thank you for the warm welcome and support you have already shown me. I look forward to continuing to build relationships with each of you and making TLES the very best it can be.
With gratitude and excitement,
Michelle Nelson
Independent Study Contract
Did you know you can request an Independent Study?
If your student is ill or going on extended leave, you can request a Short Term Independent Study Contract (STIS). The contract can be from 1 to 15 days. This allows your student to keep up with missed school work and recoup attendance credit.
How do you request a contract?
- Inform your teacher when you will be leaving. Please allow 5 or more days for the teacher to plan work for your student. If your student is ill, the contract can be backdated to allow for time missed. Just inform your teacher you would like to receive homework for the time your student was ill.
- Call or email Mrs. Chamberlain at the front office. Inform her of the dates you will be missing school. She will send you the form to fill out for the STIS contract. kchamberlain@tvusd.us or 951-294-6340 ext 53003.
When you return from illness or your trip, the homework will be due upon return to school. Credit will be given for work and attendance once the work is turned in and graded.
Have questions? Please reach out to Mrs. Chamberlain in the front office.
PBIS Skills Review
This week, we continued to review and reinforce our schoolwide PBIS expectations. Students practiced what it looks and sounds like to be safe, respectful, responsible, and ready to learn across different areas of our campus. Consistently reviewing these expectations helps students build positive habits, make responsible choices, and contribute to a safe and supportive learning environment for everyone.
