September Weekly update ~ September 5, 2025
A note from Mr. Lee
Welcome Officer Hernden to Carter!
We are excited to welcome Officer Hernden from the Warren Police Department as our new School Resource Officer (SRO) here at Carter Middle School. Officer Hernden has proudly served on the police force for many years in a variety of areas, bringing a wealth of experience and dedication to our community. She is eager to begin this next chapter of her career by working directly with students, staff, and families. Officer Hernden is looking forward to becoming a part of the Carter Community and building positive relationships with everyone here.
NWEA Testing Next Week
Next week, students will be taking the NWEA assessments in Math and ELA during their regularly scheduled classes. These tests are an important tool that help us measure academic growth and identify areas where students may need additional support. The results also provide teachers with valuable information to guide instruction and ensure every student is on the right path.
We ask that students take these assessments seriously, as their effort and focus will provide the most accurate picture of their progress. Performing well on NWEA also serves as a great jumpstart for the PSAT/MSTEP in the spring, helping students build test-taking stamina and confidence. With your encouragement and support at home, we are confident our students will RISE to the challenge!
Special Remarks from Mr. Syswerda
Early Release
Please read the following letter in regards to our early release policy for the 2025-2026 School Year.
Open House Scavenger Hunt
Mark your calendars! Carter’s Open House will take place on Tuesday, September 9th. The evening will begin with a few short messages from the Superintendent, Dr. Bernia, Mr. Lee, and other speakers. The main purpose of the night is for families to walk through their child’s schedule, meet teachers, and see what’s ahead for the school year.
To make the night even more engaging, our Leadership Class is sponsoring a Scavenger Hunt! Each teacher will have a symbol for you to collect on the Open House form your child brings home Tuesday. As you visit each class, add the symbol next to that teacher’s name. Once all six symbols are collected, have your student turn the completed form into the main office on Wednesday. Students who turn in a completed form will be entered into a raffle for some great prizes!
We can’t wait to see everyone at Open House!

The left (outside) lane is a through lane, please do not stop to pick up your student in this lane. You may stop in the right lane to pick up your student. Please see the Drop-off and pick- up procedures that was handed out during Carter Cougar Days.
Bus Transportation
Busses do leave fairly quickly (within 5-6 minutes after dismissal) from Carter Middle School, students who ride the bus should go straight to their locker and immediately out the front to the their bus. We have students who are socializing with friends and missing their bus. If they miss a bus, they will be allowed to call home for a ride, transportation will not come back to Carter to pick them up. Please be patient with all the construction busses do have to go around some areas and it is delaying transportation. If a bus is not coming an all call will go out to those parents.
