Notes from Ms Shelley - WELCOME TO THEATER COMPANY!
We are so excited to have your kids in Theater Company this semester. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is going to be a great show full of fun music, funny moments and a sweet message about imagination and hope for the future. This newsletter serves as our primary means of communication each week. We will do our best to make it succinct and accessible. In this email, you’ll find all notes about what was done in class, what will be done in class the following week and videos of any choreography learned for that week. This week: We started class with a rough read through of the script. We made an effort to show each group of students where their part occurs in the show and give them an outline of the story. Next, we had a little snack/welcome back time to get to meet our fellow actors. Lastly, we finished with learning choreography for “It Must Be Believed to Be Seen.” Next Week: Students will learn stage directions and begin blocking for Scenes 1-3. In music rehearsal, we will begin working on ‘Candy Man’, ‘Willy Wonka, Willy Wonka’ and ‘I’ve Got a Golden Ticket’. In Choreography we will continue with ‘It Must Be Believed to Be Seen.’ SCRIPTS AND TSHIRTS Normally, on the first day of class, we hand out scripts for the semester. Due to an unforeseen shipping issue, our scripts are currently stuck on a UPS truck in South Carolina. They are due to arrive tomorrow (Tuesday) and will hopefully be available for pickup starting Wednesday. If you’d like to see the script in the meantime, it is available under your theater company materials on your MyMusicStaff resources tab. This is also where you will find the guide vocal tracks as well as the accompaniment tracks. Please make this music accessible for your student so that they can practice throughout the semester. Consider saving the page as an icon on whatever device they are allowed to access or downloading the songs. Every fall semester, students receive a tshirt to be used for rehearsal each week. These shirts will be handed out in two weeks. Until that time, please have your student wear black bottoms, tennis shoes and a tshirt of their choice or past theater shirt if they have it. AUDITION FEEDBACK Every semester we make available student audition scores and comments. Theater Company has always been designed as a teaching program and we aim to teach skills in such a way that each student will improve in their acting, singing and dancing. If you’d like to know your child’s scores and comments, please email us with your student’s name and a request for their scores and comments. We will be happy to share them with you. BEHAVIOR POLICY *PLEASE READ* We strive to make Masterworks a place where all students can learn and grow. We work with students to make our expectations clear and give them the tools to follow our directions. This semester we are implementing a new behavior policy. Please be sure to review this with your student and help them understand that their behavior in class matters. Talking in class while an instructor is giving instruction, physically fighting or touching another student and other disruptive behaviors will not be tolerated. If a student repeatedly violates the rules laid out, the following will take place:

Student Attire for Class
- MTC attire is black leggings, appropriate length shorts or pants and a MTC t-shirt provided by Masterworks.
- Students may always wear clothing purchased through the MTC store. Watch for sales throughout the year!
- Students need to have tennis shoes or dance shoes on during class. Please no sandals, crocs. or boots as they will be doing dance each week.
- If a student comes to class out of MTC attire, they will have to sit out until proper attire is provided.
Don't Miss Any Info This Semester!
Using Your Student Portal in MyMusicStaff
ALL Theater Company information will be available on your Portals! The portal is what you used to sign up for auditions and you may have used it if you have already taken lessons or classes at Masterworks.
On the student portals you will find:
- Your calendar which will include classes and Week of Show practices, show times and call times.
- Ability to let teachers know you are out for a class
- Online Resource center for ALL your uploads from teachers
- Message history for all sent messages/emails
And parents: if you want your student to receive information, you can enter their info right on the site! And create a login for them to use!
If you have not created a log in, or can't find the original email from weeks ago, email the school and we will resend your login information.
If you use the Student Portal and sync your calendar, it will automatically sync for you on your device when we load it to the system.
You can always check the Theater Company Corner on the Masterworks Website for all of the emails!

A Great Way To Help Your Child Practice
- If you have a Smart TV, download the YouTube app from your TV's app store, and Sign in to your Youtube account.
- Search for Masterworks School of the Arts (you can subscribe to the Channel) and click on the MTCjr Youtube playlist.
- Click on the PLUS sign (see the picture below) and you will save the playlist in your account.
- Once you have the playlist saved, the practice videos will be available on your TV.
- This is even better than practicing with the videos on a computer, laptop, tablet or phone!

MTC Jr Directors
We enjoy working with kids and in the world of theater arts! We have high expectations for behavior and performance and we are quick with smiles and hugs!
- Mrs. Shelley has a vocal performance degree from Liberty University and has 19 years working in theater. She is also a talented designer of EVA foam puppets and props!
- Mrs. Felicia has a degree in instrumental music (band) with dance minor from Winthrop University and has 30 years working in theater.
- Mrs. Heather has 36 years of learning multiple styles of dance ranging from ballet, jazz, contemporary, tap, hip hop, and ballroom. She has collectively worked in the space of musical theater for 11 years. The bulk of her career has been in coaching and choreography for AcroFitness.
