KMS NEWSLETTER

Dear KMS Families,
As we wrap up Quarter 2, we want to remind families that this is the final week for current quarter classes. Elective classes will change beginning next Monday, January 19.
FLEX class surveys will be sent to students this week and must be completed and submitted by the end of the day on Wednesday, January 14. These surveys help us place students in FLEX classes that best support their needs and interests.
Please note that some students will be placed into FLEX classes based on their winter MAP assessment results.
Thank you for your support as we move into the second semester of our school year. If you have any questions or concerns, you can get in touch with us at 907-486-7460.

Judith Bruns, Assistant Principal

KMS STUDENTS TAKE FIRST PLACE IN THE SIMFA FOUNDATION'S STOCK MARKET GAME!!
Congratulations to Kodiak Middle School students Soren Hinman, Micah Polhemus, and Genki Seto for earning first place in the Fall 2025 Stock Market Game competition.
Participants invested a virtual $100,000 and made real-time
investment decisions, gaining a clearer understanding of capital markets, asset allocation
and wealth creation.
This outstanding achievement reflects your hard work and ability to apply research, critical thinking, and real-world decision making in a competitive setting.
We are so proud of the way you represented our school and demonstrated strong financial skills and teamwork on a statewide level.
Well done!!
MS. ZELENAK'S FLEX CLASS (STEM)
In STEM students built towers out of index cards and tape.
The goal was to build the tallest tower in 20 minutes.
Congratulations to “The Best” team, Savannah Harrison, Skylar Gali, and Bristol Booth, with a tower measuring at 100cm.
MS. LUCERO'S 7TH GRADE SCIENCE CLASS
Students explored marine biology first hand during a crab dissection activity in science class, with assistance from NOAA scientists. By examining real specimens, they learned about crab anatomy, adaptations, and how these animals survive in their environment. Activities like this give students the chance to build observation skills, ask questions, and connect classroom learning to the natural world around Kodiak.
MR. SIMPLER'S CULTURE QUEST CLASS
Making Gut Skin Pouches (Misungcuk) with master seamstress Susan Malutin and a team from KANA Wellness and Prevention
Students made authentic Alutiiq gut skin pouches using collagen for the gut and wax thread for the sinew.
