Happy Friday!
We’re officially in the middle of our first trimester! This is a great time for students and families to check in on grades, celebrate progress, and identify areas where a little extra support may be helpful.
Please take some time to look at grades in ParentVUE and encourage your student to use the resources available at SVMS, including Monday Manager, Sunrise Club, Homework Club, teachers, and our school counselor, Ms. Abbie. There is still plenty of time to make progress before the trimester comes to a close!
We’re proud of the effort our Dolphins are putting in and are here to support them every step of the way.

SVMS Spirit Squad Tryouts
The co-ed squad is open to all students, with no cuts, and will support boys’ basketball and girls’ soccer during the second athletic season. Students will learn cheers, chants, dance, and routines in a fun, non-competitive environment.
Note from the SVMS Spirit Squad Coach Erica Cruz
Hi everyone! I’m so excited to be coaching SVMS’s middle school cheerleading team!
Cheer has been a big part of my life. I cheered throughout middle and high school, competed in competitive cheer, and later coached for several years. In high school, I was also captain of our dance team, where we became USA Champions!
Cheer has now become a family tradition. My oldest daughter is captain of the Scotts Valley High School cheer team, and I have two daughters at SVMS. I’m excited to share something I love with our students and this new team.
Most of all, I’m looking forward to helping students try something new, have fun, build confidence, and be part of a team. If you’ve ever thought, “Maybe I should try cheer,” this is your sign! Come bring your energy and help us build something special in our first year.
And for a little extra fun—our family owns Pleasure Pizza Downtown in Santa Cruz, so there may even be some pizza after practice now and then!
Go team!

Words to Carry as a Parent
Most young people are searching for an IMPOSSIBLE feelings.
They think they should feel happy all the time.
And when they don't they think something is wrong.
But here is the truth we need to tell our growing kids:
Most of life is ordinary.
You need to learn how to be alone without feeling lonely.
You need to learn how to be bored without immediately reaching for your phone.
You need to keep going when something feels difficult, not assume it isn't meant for you.
You need to survive disappointment without believing your whole life is falling apart.
And you need to fail without deciding you are a failure.
Happiness is not a permanent state.
A good life still includes boredom, struggle, reflection and ordinary days.
Our job is not to make our children happy every minute.
It is to help them become strong enough to live through every kind of minute.

SVMS Lockdown Drill
Week of 10/5
Next week, SVMS will conduct a lockdown drill in partnership with local law enforcement. Safety and preparedness are important priorities, and practicing these procedures helps our students and staff feel prepared and confident in an emergency.
The drill will last approximately 15–20 minutes and will include practicing our lockdown and barricading procedures. Law enforcement officers will be on campus to support the drill. Following the drill, students will have an opportunity to debrief with their class and ask questions or process the experience with their teacher.
