Thank you Byam Families!

Thank you to all our Byam School families for coming out for our Byam Art Show and Byam BSA Scholastic Fair! Chelmsford Police Community Resource Dog Ozzie wanted to also say a thank you "Ruff!" :)

MCAS

Congratulations to our 3rd and 4th graders for their awesome perseverance, wrapping up MCAS ELA.

Byam May MATH MCAS are the dates below:

  • 3rd Grade Math Monday May 15th and Tuesday May 16th

  • 4th Grade Math Wednesday May 17th and Thursday May 18th

Dynamite Diners

On Thursday, our 2nd graders earned their "dinner and a movie" reward for being March's Dynamite Diners. They watched a couple of animated shorts during lunch. Today was our last day for the April contest. We'll announce our April winners next week.

Lynn Hoopes Poetry Enrichment

This week our 3rd graders had their annual visit with poet Lyn Hoopes. Ms. Hoopes has been visiting Byam students for many years and always provides engaging poetry workshops. Our Byam poets created their own wonderful pieces as a culminating activity. Thank you to the BSA for sponsoring the wonderful enrichment activity.

Placement Process Input

Our placement process for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year is beginning and will take place over several weeks. This process is truly a team effort that involves input from school personnel and student data gathered over time. We put great care into the decisions that are made. All information is reviewed by the present grade level teachers, reading specialists, special education teachers, guidance counselor, principal and other appropriate personnel so that we can be confident that classroom make ups are conducive to learning.

When creating classrooms, it is important that we are mindful to the needs of our students across grade levels. Individual classes need to strike the delicate balance between overall range of abilities, learning styles, special needs, conduct and appropriate combinations of students. Final lists are reviewed very carefully to ensure we have used our collective professional judgment to place each child appropriately in a well-balanced class. Our goal at Byam is to provide a learning environment that meets the needs of the whole child and placement is a key factor in realizing this goal. Your input in the process is gladly accepted. If you feel that there is additional information of which we should be aware in placing your child for next year, please inform me by email (with the title 2023 placement in the subject line), by Tuesday, May 11, 2023. Please keep in mind that we are unable to honor requests for individual teachers. Letters containing such requests will be returned to you.

Thank you for your involvement and continued partnership in your child's education at Byam.

GET INVOLVED WITH THE BSA!

We are humbly asking parents to consider volunteering for one small task each year. If your child is attending an event, please keep an eye out for future sign-up forms. Many responsible students can also help with parent supervision! In addition to event volunteers, here are a few larger roles we are looking to fill. We will teach you the ropes and "ease" you in. If any of these interest you, email bsa.chelmsford@gmail.com!

~Sincerely, your BSA Board
