KIA ORA VOGELTOWN WHANAU KIA ORA VOGELTOWN WHANAU

Kia ora Vogeltown whānau, welcome to the newsletter for Week 9 of Term 3. We have had another busy week of learning and fun! We have one more week till the end of this term and then everyone will be ready for a term break and rest - everyone has certainly deserved it after this busy term!

We have been acknowledging a few celebrations this week with Te reo o wiki maori (Maori language week), Wig Wednesday (for child cancer foundation) and the Fresh Air Challenge! It is great to support these areas of our community. We raised $340 for Wig Wednesday - a massive thanks from everyone here at Vogeltown, Ka mau te wehi whanau!

On Tuesday night all of our staff went for a walk around the classrooms in the school and acknowledged (written and orally) how great our classrooms look and celebrate our learners work. One of our 4 teaching beliefs is 'celebrate student creativity in a quality room' and we are so lucky to have this at Vogeltown. A massive thanks to all our teachers who spend hours making their classrooms inviting and safe for our Vogeltown learners.

We ended this week with a great 'whole school assembly' where we celebrated our Tamariki involved in Cross Country, Academic awards, Rm 4 class work and our Principal Awards. It is so rewarding to get together as a school and celebrate as a family - we are certainly a lucky school with so many awesome kids and adults!

Next week we look forward to ending the term with some fun events. We have the New Plymouth Schools music festival on Wednesday night (with a practice on Tuesday) and the Paetoki team 'Social dancing' on Thursday at 2pm. The kids have been working really hard for both of these events! The Music festival is held at the TSB stadium - we still have some last few tickets for anyone wanting some. The Paetoki Social Dancing is open to everyone - it will be on the turf at the senior school.

Next Friday is the last day of Term 3. We begin Term 4 on the 9th October. A reminder for any whanau who began with us after the 18 August, that we will be having a Powhiri on Friday 13th October - we would love you all to join us.

Have a great weekend whanau!

ATTENDANCE AT VOGELTOWN - Week 9 ATTENDANCE AT VOGELTOWN - Week 9

Research shows that regular attendance benefits academic achievement, the development of social skills and competencies and friendships. If children are unwell or absent, please inform the office. If there are other factors that are impacting attendance please contact us so that we can work together. The Ministry of Education benchmark for regular attendance is 70% of students attending school 90% of the time. At Vogeltown School we meet this target on most weeks, this week we sit at 89% - see the graph below. We are beginning to see the bugs and flus slowly dissipate, which is great!

PRINCIPAL AWARDS - WEEK 9, TERM 3 PRINCIPAL AWARDS - WEEK 9, TERM 3

OUT OF ZONE ENROLMENTS 2024:

Enrolment at Vogeltown School is governed by an enrolment scheme, details of which are available from the school office or from our website.

Next year there will be two enrolment periods.

The first enrolment period will run from 30 January 2024 to 12 April 2024.

The second enrolment period will run from 29 April 2024 to 5 July 2024.

The Board has determined that 0 places are likely to be available for out of zone students turning 5 in the first enrolment period. The Board will determine how many places are likely to be available for out of zone students turning 5 for the second enrolment period by Wednesday 14th February 2024. The exact number of places will depend on the number of enrolments received from students who live within the school's home zone.

For students seeking enrolment within the second enrolment period, the deadline for receipt of out of zone places is Friday 23rd February 2024. Application for enrolment for an out of zone student is made by completing an out of zone application form (available from the school office and from our website). Parents and whanau who live in the home zone and intend enrolling their child for 2024 should apply by Friday 6th October 2023 to assist the school to plan effectively for the 2024 school year.

For the second enrolment period, if the number of out of zone applications exceeds the places available, students will be selected by ballot in accordance with instructions detailed in the enrolment scheme. If a ballot is required, it will be held on Monday 26th February 2024. Parents and whanau will be informed of the outcome of the ballot on Tuesday 27th February 2024.
