Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 20th June 2025
Year 1 School Trip to Yorkshire Wildlife Park
As part of our science unit on animals, Year 1 went on an exciting trip to Yorkshire Wildlife Park. The visit was a fantastic opportunity to bring our learning to life and explore the amazing world of animals up close!
We began the day by taking part in a brilliant workshop all about classifying animals. We learned how to group animals based on features such as whether they have fur, feathers, or scales, and whether they lay eggs or give birth to live young. Everyone joined in enthusiastically and impressed the park staff with their knowledge and questions.
After the workshop, we got the chance to get hands-on with some very unusual creatures! Many of us were brave enough to stroke giant hissing cockroaches and even hold African land snails. It was a great way to learn more about invertebrates – and we discovered that they’re not as scary as they look!
One of the most memorable moments of the day was watching the polar bears swimming and playing in their pool. We were amazed by how big they are and how gracefully they move in the water. It was a truly special experience to see such magnificent animals up close.
The trip to Yorkshire Wildlife Park was a fantastic day full of fun, learning, and unforgettable animal encounters. We can’t wait for our next adventure!
