Energy Drinks' Positive Effects by Layla Walker.
Recently Layla Walker shared some positive effects of energy drinks as part of her Work-Based Learning experience. In it she discusses the positive effects of energy drinks, focusing on their ability to improve physical endurance, muscle strength, cognitive performance, and metabolism. Key ingredients like caffeine and amino acids boost metabolism and help increase alertness and focus. Caffeine, a main stimulant in energy drinks, stimulates the central nervous system, which can raise metabolism and aid in fat burning, although the effect is minimal (less than 100 calories per day) and temporary.
Energy drinks are particularly popular among adolescents, with 30-50% consuming at least one daily to enhance physical and cognitive skills or combat fatigue. They’re also commonly used by athletes for improved reaction time and mental sharpness. Despite their drawbacks, like being diuretics and not the healthiest option, energy drinks are seen as a convenient solution for those needing quick energy, especially in situations like working through sleepless nights.
In conclusion, while not ideal for long-term health, energy drinks are effective for temporarily boosting energy, metabolism, and performance.

TOK (Theory of Knowledge)
How do you know what you think you know is actually true? Each week, we ponder a TOK question prompting teachers and students to think, discuss, and reflect. The Questions of the Week for January and February are as follows:
1/6 - To what extent are the insights available from the appreciation of a work of art dependent upon the intentions of the artist?
1/13 - To what extent can the use of reason bring us closer to the truth in history?
1/20 - How do we know if a source or claim can be trusted?
1/27 - How do we know what is morally right or wrong?
2/3 - Are mathematical statements true because we define them to be so, or because we discover them to be so?
2/10 - Does our interpretation of knowledge from the past allow us to reliably predict the future?
2/17 - How does perception work to actively interpret events in History?
2/24 - How can we draw a clear line between fact and interpretation in history?
