The deadline for registration and payment is Friday October 31st.
Students must be registered in both AP Classroom AND Total Registration.

Boyertown Area Senior HS - AP Exam Registration

ATTENTION! Students and guardians should complete this registration/enrollment together. 2025-26 Academic World Quest has begun! 2025-26 Academic World Quest has begun!

Our BASH competition for the Academic World Quest teams has begun. However, there’s time to get involved if you’re interested. If you are still interested in joining, email Mr. Burychka (bburychka@boyertownasd.org) to get started.

What is AWQ? Founded in 2003, Academic World Quest is a team game testing high school students’ knowledge of international affairs. Four-person teams compete by answering questions divided into ten unique and engaging thematic categories. The winner is the team with the most correct answers.

How to Play - there are 10 rounds in the competition, each round having 10 questions. Teams will have 45 seconds at the Berks Co. competition and 30-45 seconds at the National Competition to answer each question. For the AWQ National Competition, all of the categories are multiple choice. For Local AWQ Competition organized by World Affair Councils, it may be a multiple-choice format for the Current Events category.
BASH Competition - to determine the two teams that BASH will send to the Berks County competition in March, we are having our own BASH Competition. There are 9 topics and current events. Approximately every week or two, we have a 50 question quiz on one of those topics. The topics and the specific articles that the questions will be pulled from are located in the link below:

While we have completed the Week 1 quiz, if you join now, you can make it up.

YAG, or Youth and Government, is a national YMCA program that provides high school students with a hands-on experience in civic engagement, leadership, and model government. Participants learn about government structures by researching issues, drafting bills, debating, and participating in a mock legislative conference at their state capitol. The program culminates in a state conference where students act as delegates to debate bills, and in some cases, have their ideas presented to real government officials.

Joining the Club - Our club is open to all high school students. We'd be thrilled to have you join us.

How it Works - Meetings run Wednesday evenings at the Boyertown YMCA and/or Friday mornings at school.
You can choose to participate in one of three branches:

  1. Press - You'll act as a journalist, reporting on the various events and activities of our club.

  2. Legislative - You'll have the opportunity to write a bill on an issue you're passionate about.

  3. Judicial - You can become an attorney and work on a civil law case.

Upcoming Events and Volunteer Opportunities
We have several exciting events and volunteer opportunities:

  • Field Trip 1 in November (Saturday) - Elections Convention: Students run campaigns for leadership positions across the state.

  • Field Trip 2 Pre-Leg (typically a Saturday in January/February): Preparation for model convention. Students gain feedback on their work and learn more about their role at model.

  • Field Trip 3Model Convention: 4 days, 3 nights trip to Harrisburg. Conference with students from schools across the state.

  • Volunteer requirement: Must achieve 10 hours of community service. Events offered at the Boyertown YMCA.

AP Language and Composition

AP Language and Composition is an introductory college-level composition source, focusing on rhetorical analysis, argument writing, and synthesis writing. Students read complex texts, learning to analyze a writer’s rhetorical choices in crafting their argument. They also learn the composition process - writing prose of sufficient richness and complexity to communicate effectively. Writing instruction will move beyond formalistic writing such as the five-paragraph essay, placing emphasis on content, purpose, and audience and allowing this focus to guide the organization of their writing. Students will write in both formal and informal contexts to gain authority and to learn to take risks in writing. Literature selections will be studied to aid students in understanding rhetorical and linguistic choices. Much of the class is focused on close reading analysis, critical thinking, discussion, and debate - all leading to writing.

AP Literature and Composition

The AP English Literature and Composition course is intended to give you the experience of a typical introductory college literature course, focusing on short fiction, long fiction, and poetry. It includes intensive study of representative works from various genres, periods, and cultures, concentrating on works of recognized literary merit. You read some of the richest pieces of World Literature, covering an array of topics, themes, and perspectives. Your insights and observations will help drive class discussion; additional focus will be in analysis, literary theory, and close reading. You will learn to read deliberately and thoroughly, taking time to understand a work's complexity, to absorb its richness of meaning, and to analyze how that meaning is embodied in literary form. Writing assignments in the course will address the critical analysis of literature and will include expository, analytical, and argumentative essays. In addition, creative-writing assignments such as response and reaction papers will help you see from the inside how literature is written. Writing assignments will increase your ability to explain clearly and cogently what you understand about literary works and how you interpret them.
