Message from the Principal
Hi CLA families,
Goodbye September and Hello October! Our scholars are well into the groove of the 23/24 school year now and we are seeing an increase in scholar participation in courses from previous years. Keep up the good work CLAHS!
During the Month of October, we will be highlighting SAFETY. Providing a safe learning environment is a top priority for us in being able to educate our scholars. We want CLA scholars to feel safe at school, and part of that is educating them about safety. During the month of October, scholars will participate in ALICE training (violent intruder response), the Oregon ShakeOut (earthquake response) and Red Ribbon Week (drug and alcohol abuse prevention).
For more information about these Safety campaigns to continue the conversation at home, here are some helpful resources:
Stay safe,
Jennifer

In addition to this, Keara is kind, hardworking, and driven. She is taking advantage of opportunity and living the (+) in Every Student Graduates +. We are so proud of you, Keara! Keep up the great work!
Staff Feature - Mrs. Huntsman
Mrs. Huntsman is the Assistant Principal and Math Teacher at CLAHS. One can often find Mrs. Huntsman making punny math jokes with her cow-culator in owl-gebra. She brings the FUN to Math, because she is passionate about helping our scholars learn and truly does whatever it takes help make this happen -- She highlights real-world application and careers within mathematics, provides hands-on projects, and offers video supports for her scholars.
Mrs. Huntsman is devoted in the classroom and behind the scenes. As the Assistant Principal, Mrs. Huntsman helps with student behaviors, school systems, instructional planning, graduation planning, and much more.
Fun fact - Mrs. Huntsman likes rock music and the San Francisco Giants. Plus, she drives a pretty sweet car. But perhaps the VERY BEST things about Mrs. Huntsman is her HEART - to help scholars and even colleagues. You are irreplaceable Mrs. Huntsman and CLA is better because of you!

CLA @ Southern Oregon Trades Career Expo
CLAHS took 11th and 12th grade scholars to the Southern Oregon Trades Career Expo in Canyonville, OR last week. Our scholars learned about trade careers in the region, discovered these careers are in high demand, and practiced inquiry skills along the way. What a great event! Attendance will be taken on Friday based on the Canvas Advisory Attendance assignment and completing assigned work.

**Students are required to have ACADEMIC PROGRESS (work submitted daily) and COMMUNICATION (Advisory Attendance assignment) every day for daily attendance.**. CLA High School students are also required to attend their Advisory session in person each week. PLEASE CALL THE OFFICE IF YOUR STUDENT IS SICK OR UNABLE TO COMPLETE COURSEWORK. This information will allow us to code the absence correctly and will prevent an attendance letter from being automatically generated from the student profile.
Additional Supports
Academic Review
Every 3 weeks, CLA staff reviews scholar academic progress school-wide. We call this Academic Review. As we review the academic data, we look for ways to celebrate and to support our scholars. We also take this time to communicate with parents as needed.
In October, there will be an Academic Review on October 6th and October 27th. We encourage families to take notes of these dates as well. You can use these dates to celebrate and support your scholar too!
As part of this process, scholars in need of additional support, may be placed on an Academic Plan of Assistance, requiring daily on-campus attendance.
TutorMe
Our school is proud to announce that we’ve teamed up with TutorMe to offer 24/7 online tutoring to all students!
TutorMe is a place where our students can build the connections they need to learn and thrive. Through TutorMe, students connect with a tutor who’s an exact match for what they’re looking for – whether you’re stumped by an algebra equation, craving a confidence boost, or looking for an extra challenge.
Friday Support and Enrichment
Support: All teachers will be available for tutoring Friday afternoons from 1:00-3:30
Enrichment: Beginning in October, CLAHS will offer a hands-on or experiential learning opportunities each Friday for scholars who would like to sign up.
Stay Connected
Parent support is invaluable! Although they may not always act like it, your high school student needs you now more than ever. CLA wants to help you keep that connection. Parents have found great success using the Canvas Parent App and the Crater Lake Academy App.
Canvas Parent App
We encourage our parents to download the Canvas Parent App to stay connected to student assignments, grades, and announcements.
For a step-by-step tutorial watch this video "Canvas LMS for Parents."
