The Weekly Buzz
From Palmer River Elementary School
October 10, 2025
Dear Families,
We’re finally feeling those crisp fall temperatures—and it’s safe to say that autumn has officially arrived! The cooler weather has brought a fresh energy to our days, and the students are enjoying the seasonal changes all around campus.
We're especially excited for the upcoming Trunk or Treat event this Saturday at the High School! This is always a highlight of the season, and we can’t wait to see the creative trunks, fun games, and—of course—the amazing costumes! It's sure to be a fantastic time for families and a great way to celebrate together.
Thank you for all you do to support our school community. Until next week—stay cozy and enjoy the fall vibes!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kristine Kefor, Principal & Mrs. Cassey Monte, Assistant Principal

Another GREAT Week at PRES!
Palmer River Elementary Kicks Off “Socktober” Drive to Support Local Shelters
This October, Palmer River Elementary School is partnering with the East Bay Community Action Program to host a Socktober Drive, encouraging students and families to donate new socks of all sizes.
Collection bins will be placed in classrooms, making it easy for students to drop off their donations throughout the month. Each week, members of the school’s 4th Grade Student Leadership Program, known as the Community Connectors, will count and empty the bins. The school-wide total will be announced every Friday, building excitement and encouraging participation.
All collected socks will be donated to local shelters to help support individuals and families in need as the colder months approach.
Palmer River is proud to join this community effort and looks forward to seeing students and families come together to make a difference during Socktober.

🐝The Buzz from the Health Office 🐝
Medications
This is a friendly reminder that all emergency medications—including those used as needed (such as inhalers, EpiPens, or Valtoco)—must have current medication orders on file for the school year. Please note that medication orders expire at the end of each school year and must be renewed annually. At this time, I am still missing many emergency medications and orders. If you have not yet sent these in, please do so as soon as possible. Please contact me if you have any questions regarding this matter.
Health Screening
We are continuing health screenings next week. If a child fails vision or hearing, I will follow up and re-screen prior to sending notes home. If you prefer that your child not participate in these screenings, please let me know via email.
Medical Requirements for 3rd and 4th Grade Students
The Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the Palmer River Elementary School District mandate that each student have a current physical examination on file with the school nurse before entering 4th grade.
For third-grade students, physicals submitted during this school year will meet the requirements.
For fourth-grade students, please submit them as soon as possible.
Documents can be faxed to (508) 252-5110, emailed to me at eferreira@drregional.org, or enclosed in a sealed envelope and sent in with your child, as per your preference.
Spare clothing
Accidents happen! All children are recommended to keep a spare set of clothes at school. This includes a shirt, pants, underpants, and socks. Spare clothing will be stored in a safe location in the classroom and returned at the end of the year. I can also store them in the nurse's office if needed.
