The MTSS framework for All

In Avon Grove School District, we use a framework called Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) to provide academic and behavioral supports and services to students. MTSS has 3 tiers: Tier 1, 2, and 3. Tier 1 is the general curriculum that all students receive. Tier 2 is where students receive more targeted support and Tier 3 is where students receive intensive support. Throughout the school year, the PLES staff are continually collecting and analyzing data to determine students' need for these supports. This ongoing focus on our students ensures that all students are making progress academically and behaviorally.

Teaching Phonics

We use Fundations as our resource for teaching phonics. Learning phonics is a critical component of learning to read. The links below show what your child is working on in the classroom. Students who receive intervention need additional time and practice with phonics to help them learn letters, letter sounds, and words so they are working on previous units.

We apologize that we do not have videos in Spanish.

Kindergarten: We are teaching Unit 1 (teaching of letters and sounds) until early December. Here is a video from Fundations about instruction in Unit 1.

First Grade: We are working on reviewing phonics concepts from Kindergarten. Unit 2 is about reading and spelling consonant-vowel-consonant words. Here is a video from Fundations about instruction in Unit 2.

Title I Home and School Compact

PLES is a Title I Schoolwide school which means that we use federal funds to provide reading intervention and strengthen the literacy program. As part of Title I, we have a Home and School Compact. The Title I Home and School Compact is a document that supports the partnership between school, parents/caregivers, and students to help students achieve academic goals. It states the roles of school staff and families in supporting the children's learning. You can view the document in the Title I documents section below.
