An Update from Hough Elementary

Welcome back, Hough Families!

I hope everyone had a wonderful and restful break filled with time to relax and recharge. It has been so great to see our hallways come back to life with energy, laughter, and excitement as our students and shared shared highlights and adventures of the time off. We are ready for a strong finish to the school year!

This month, our Character Strong focus is courage. At Hough, we talk with students about courage as more than just being brave in big moments—it’s also about the small, everyday choices. Courage is raising your hand when you’re unsure, trying something new, standing up for what is right, and continuing to persevere even when something feels challenging. These are the moments that build confidence, resilience, and a strong sense of self.

We are proud of the many ways our students show courage each day—whether it’s taking academic risks, building new friendships, or using their voice to make a positive impact. We encourage you to continue these conversations at home by talking about times when you or your child have shown courage, especially in situations that felt a little uncomfortable or uncertain.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support. We have so many activities and events in the coming weeks- I can't believe we have just nine weeks together!

Incoming kindergarten families, if you are interested in Spanish Dual Language, Chinese Immersion, or K-Lab for the 2026-2027 school year, Tuesday, March 31st is the last day to let us know that! Please contact the Central Registration Office at registration@barrington220.org to start the registration process.

Hough's Annual Art Fair & Bake Sale will be on Friday, May 1st. We need your help framing the 260+ student masterpieces on Saturday, April 18th and Tuesday, April 21st. We also need many volunteers to help set-up, run and break-down the event with various time slots between 3:00pm - 6:30pm on Friday, May 1st. CLICK HERE TO SIGN-UP. This event is held rain or shine. If raining, we'll be in the gym. Thank you very much!

Registration for summer school in Barrington 220 opens on March 30th, but course listings are available now! Check them out when you have a moment.

Hough Field Day is Thursday, 5/21 at Citizens Park for Grades 1-5. Kindergarten Field Day is held the same day at Hough Street School. More information will be coming from the Kinder room parents. Please click here to review the available positions and sign up! In the comments section please indicate if you are also available for the rain date (5/28) and if you have a station preference.
