Candy Wars
The Battle Begins!
It's time for the friendliest battle of the year. Candy Wars begins 10/1 and runs through 10/28. Students should bring in bags of wrapped candy; the bigger the bag, the better the battle. You need to record the weight on the form below, and then it can be stored in the blue bins that will be up front, either in the office or by it.
Book Fair
October 5 - 9
Visit the book fair during conference week!
Academic Updates
Literacy (Mrs. Taft & Ms. Hormachea)
Math (Mrs. Stucky & Mrs. Dunlap)
Kodiak, Polar & Giant Panda Bear Groups: Students continued to practice multiplication, division and volume of regular and irregular 3D figures. Next week, students will take the end of unit 1 test (Wednesday).
Grizzly Bears: Students completed the 5th grade Unit 1 concepts and skills, and have been dipping into the associated 6th grade concepts and skills. Next week, students will take an assessment to gauge their understanding of these more challenging concepts (Wednesday).
Science (Mrs. Stucky & Mrs. Dunlap)
Students spent this week learning about the Solar System, and what can be found there (planets, dwarf planets, moons, stars, asteroids, comets, etc). We looked at the true scale of the solar system and discussed the various celestial bodies' defining characteristics (size, shape, composition, etc). Next week, students will explore the moon and stars specifically.
Science (Earth Systems, Hormachea & Taft)
STEM (Ms. Kinner)
Students are in their second rotation of specials. Each class will rotate through STEM in the coming weeks. Students will be focusing on the hydrosphere, creating a hydro dome and learning about hydroponics. If you have paper rolls, small cardboard boxes, or SMART water bottles, we could use some donations.
Excellence Trackers
Each Friday your child will be bringing home an Excellence Tracker. This tracker lets you know how your child is doing each week. This way, there are no surprises at conferences and you can see what your child is thriving in and places for improvement. Please sign the Excellence Tracker and have your child return it by Tuesday morning so we know that you saw it.
PLUM Updates
5th Grade Parents! We know you have lots of questions about PLUM in February, but if you weren't able to join us, the slides we shared are linked below. Keep an eye on this newsletter each week, as this is where information about PLUM will be shared. Online Registration is expected to open in mid OCTOBER.
PLE Dress Code
At Pine Lane Elementary, we pride ourselves on the appearance of our facility, students, and staff. Our dress requirements reflect our belief that school is a dedicated place for teaching and learning. Please review the key expectations from our student handbook below:
Tops & Shirts: Must reach the belt line or be long enough to tuck in. Midriffs must remain fully covered.
Pants, Shorts, & Skirts: Pants and shorts must be worn at the waistline with no visible undergarments. Skirts and shorts should be a reasonable length (mid-thigh length is a helpful guide).
Footwear: Tennis shoes are strongly recommended for PE class and daily playground activities.
Prohibited Items: Hats and costume-like apparel are not permitted outside of designated spirit days. Apparel with emblems, symbols, or graphics promoting alcohol, drugs, tobacco, or illegal activity is strictly prohibited, as is any clothing that disrupts the learning environment.
