Reminders for our First Late-Start Monday
The first late-start Monday of the school year is scheduled for Monday, September 21st.
What’s changing: On late-start Mondays, school start times are adjusted to allow teachers to collaborate and plan for upcoming lessons. Students are encouraged to use this time to stay caught up on coursework and work on their Personalized Learning Plans (PLPs). During these late start Mondays, school starts at 8:00 am. More details on our daily schedules can be found here.
Why it matters: Anoka-Hennepin Schools provide multiple pathways for students to prepare for career and college readiness following high school. As part of that effort, students create and update a Personalized Learning Plan (PLP) starting in Grade 9 and continuing throughout their high school experience. Utilizing late-start Mondays gives students dedicated time to complete these essential activities and stay on track with their post-secondary goals. Students can continue where they left off each time they login to Scoir. The program will save their previous work and new activities will be updated monthly for them to continue to work through during the school year.
The schedule: Late-start Mondays provide students with unstructured time prior to the start of classes. Throughout the school year, students are strongly encouraged to utilize time during late-start Mondays and any unstructured advisement time to complete this important work on their PLPs.
Know the Score: Students access their PLP through a digital platform called Scoir (pronounced Score), where they are assigned a variety of grade-level career and college readiness activities. The Scoir platform allows for collaboration with parents and guardians in their student's post-secondary education plans. Students can access Scoir by logging in to A-HConnect via the district or school website.
More information: Students will be supported through the Career and College Center at their school with any questions they have. Additional information will continue to be shared throughout the school year in school e-newsletters for parents and guardians and through email communication with students.

Starting the Year Off: Making It Count
Andover Hosts District Wide Senior Bleacher Captains
When student-athletes return to the field, court or pool for competitions, they will receive extra support from student leaders in the stands following a sportsmanship training seminar held at Andover High School.
Anoka-Hennepin’s five traditional high schools and each school in the Northwest Suburban Conference (NWSC) designated student Bleacher Captains to participate in the sportsmanship training seminar titled “Stay Above the Line,” an initiative to promote positive spectator behavior and expectations for the upcoming sports and activities season.

Making It Count: Attendance Information and Guidelines
This year our focus is making it count each and every day. Partnering with each and every student, regular attendance throughout the school year is a huge priority. Students are expected to be in school in attendance for all 5 periods every day unless a parent/guardian submits an approved absence. This includes our closed campus for lunches. With our combined support, our students will graduate empowered to achieve their personal and professional goals, engage the world, and thrive in the 21st century.
The below video provides more information on how regular attendance should be a priority for everyone:
Reporting an Absence
Absences/Early Dismissals:
- A parent/guardian should use the ParentVue app to report an absence or early dismissal before 7:15 AM. Please note only one ParentVue submission works per day. If you need to change your submission, please call the Main Office.
- Andover High School uses an automated calling system to notify parents/guardians of their student's absence(s). If we do not receive prior notification from a parent/guardian about an absence, our automated calling system will contact you for more information.
PSAT/NMSQT Test
Andover High School will offer the PSAT/NMSQT to interested Juniors on Wednesday, October 7th. The PSAT/NMSQT is the qualifying test for entry to the National Merit Scholarship Program and to compete for recognition and college scholarships which will be awarded in 2028. It is NOT a required test. See more information about the National Merit Scholarship Program at national merit.org. The test day is a regular school day and students will be responsible for the work they miss in classes.
Although we primarily focus on the ACT in MN, the PSAT is an option for 11th grade students who would like to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship program OR who want to prepare for the SAT. National Merit Scholarship Corporation recognizes students who test in the top 1% in their state. We would suggest students in the top 5% of the junior class consider testing if they want a chance to be a National Merit Scholar.
- 60 spots are reserved for interested Andover High School students. Test takers will need to pay through the SchoolPay app to secure their spot. Testing seats are available on a first come first serve basis.
- This optional test is available for 11th grade students and will take place in the IMC (Library). It will be held on Wednesday, October 7th from 7:30-10:30 AM. The cost is $20 via SchoolPay ($5 for those on free/reduced lunch).
- The PSAT is approximately 2 hours 15 minutes in length and will be in a digital format, taken on a school issued device.
- Registration is open through September 23rd. Only students who’ve paid through SchoolPay will have a test ordered. We are unable to accommodate late or day of registrations.
Please contact Marcia Stam at 763-506-8508 with any questions.
