WEEKLY HAWK
November 24-28, 2025
Message from Mrs. Lloyd
Hello Homestead Community!
There was so much going on at Homestead last week! I hope your students came home telling you some neat things that they did! 1st grade went on a field trip to see Goodnight Moon at the Denver Performing Arts Center and 2nd grade had the district STEM team come to engage in a water table lesson. Additionally, 5th grade welcomed the Cherry Creek Storytellers who told a Native American origin story about evergreen trees and a story about not underestimating "the power of a little seed."
Another exciting addition this year is the expanded support all students will receive through a strengthened partnership between our classroom teachers and our mental health team, Ms. Jessie and Ms. Karam. They are jumping in to co-teach social-emotional learning lessons and lead community circles across classrooms. We’re thrilled to have their partnership and expertise helping every student build strong skills as we continue growing a kind, compassionate community that understands both personal needs and the needs of others.
As we move into a week of thankfulness, I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the welcoming community here at Homestead. Serving as your principal has been an honor, and I truly feel fortunate to be part of this school. In a recent conversation, our new kitchen manager, Lee, shared, “Wow, these kids here are so amazing, and the staff has been kind and welcoming.” I couldn’t agree more. Thank you for your kindness, your partnership, and for allowing me to be part of the story of Homestead.
Take care,
Katie

Our Community Showed Up in a Big Way!
Thank you so much for all the gift cards and Thanksgiving meal sides! Because of your incredible generosity, we raised $1,650 in gift card donations and helped nearly 60 families enjoy a full meal this season. Your giving spirit is truly amazing, and we are so grateful for everything this community does to support our families.
Many Thanks to 3rd Grade Volunteers
Wow, the 3rd grade color theory and painting unit was a huge success! Students learned how to use the primary colors to make secondary and tertiary colors. They also learned how to make tints and shades of colors to create a gradient painting. We could not have done it without the help of so many wonderful parent volunteers! Thank you for braving the busyness, the mess, and the clean-up! Keep an eye out for beautiful gradient silhouettes in the hallways soon.
In addition, students learned about the history of the silhouette and the influential contemporary artist Kara Walker: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6RRuw-yWOQ

ATTENTION: All Volunteers at Homestead
Colorado legislation has prompted greater need to screen and document volunteers in our schools. As of January 2022, we began asking every volunteer to complete a brief application to support activities in CCSD schools.
If you are currently volunteering or plan to volunteer in the future, please complete the CCSD online volunteer form. To access the form, click on the following link: https://apps.raptortech.com/Apply/NzU0OmVuLVVT or scan the QR code. It should only take a few minutes to complete and you will only need to complete this form once a year to meet the requirements to volunteer in all CCSD buildings.
Please note: if you completed this application more than one year ago, it is time to do it again!
The safety and security of our students and staff remains our top priority. Every person entering our buildings must have a badge printed from our Raptor system or a District ID.
We want to thank you in advance for your support of our schools and if you have any questions, please feel free to contact our Homestead main office at 720.554.3700.
Looking for After School Activities?
