KMS NEWSLETTER

Dear KMS Parents and Guardians,
Quarter 1 wrapped up on Friday with an exciting week of school spirit that included our fall pep rally and home basketball games against Houston. Both KMS teams earned wins on Friday, and our students showed excellent behavior and sportsmanship in the stands. We are very proud of their energy, teamwork, and positive representation of our school!!
Report cards and Fall MAP Growth reports will be sent home with students this week. Some students will also receive a letter about FLEX intervention placement based on their MAP scores or report card grades. Each grade level will host an academic assembly soon to recognize students for their hard work and success during the first quarter, with dates and times to be announced.
New FLEX classes will start Tuesday, 11/4. This quarter offers several additional options based on student interests and academic needs. Each student completed an interest survey to help guide placement, while interventions were prioritized to provide targeted support for learning.
Our next school event, the Fall Ball, is coming up soon for 7th and 8th graders. Admission is $3 or two non-perishable or canned food items. The dance is a fun, school-sponsored evening for students to celebrate together in a positive way. Regular school dress code applies, and students should aim for a neat casual to semi-formal look that is comfortable yet appropriate. Once checked in, students must remain inside the building unless a parent signs them out early. Please note that students with Tier 2 or Tier 3 behavior referrals within one week prior to the dance (October 31) will not be eligible to attend.
And finally, during Quarter 1, our KMS Guideline for Success focus was Respect. Students who earned a Grizzly Ticket for demonstrating respect will be invited to a donut and juice celebration this Wednesday to recognize their positive choices. As we move into Quarter 2, our new focus is Kindness. Staff will be on the lookout for students who show kindness through their actions, words, and the way they treat others each day.
Thank you for your continued support and for helping us create a school culture built on respect, compassion, and community. Go Grizzlies!

MRS. NORTON'S 8TH GRADE SOCIAL STUDIES: KODIAK TEEN COURT
Monday in US History classes students listened to KHS representatives from Kodiak Teen Court recruiting for the next class of lawyers. Teen Court is a restorative justice program that hears real misdemeanor cases involving teens, such as MIP, vandalism, and other offenses, providing an alternative to the criminal Department of Justice process.
Starting next week, students can take a class which will run Monday and Wednesday nights from 6-8 pm from November 3, 2025 - January 21, 2026. Classes will be held in the Choral Pod.
Students who pass the Bar Exam at the end of the class, will earn a .5 elective credit towards KHS graduation requirements. In addition, any work on cases or participation in Teen Court meetings will count towards the US History Citizenship project hours.
For more information see Mrs. Norton, or call the Kodiak Teen Court office (907) 486-3550
