Roos Choose

Our Roos Choose focus for November is Citizenship! This means being the kind of person who is involved in trying to make their community, nation or world a better place. Good citizens are people who are engaged, in big or small ways, in considering the needs of others in their community and have respect for authority figures.

So this month, let's all remember that Roos choose to be a member of and support our community.

NGC Reminders NGC Reminders

Last week we met with our students to go over expectations and rules for the NGC. As a reminder, our instructional day is from 8:15 - 4:00. Our cafeteria doors open at 7:45 and our front doors open at 8:00. Once students are on campus, they are not allowed to walk off of campus until the end of the instructional day. Students attend advisory daily. During this time students can work on homework/classwork. During all classes, including advisory, students are not to have their phones. Phones are to remain in the class "phone hotels" or in students' backpacks. Students can be on their phones during passing periods and at lunch. While there are campus bathroom guidelines in place, teachers always have discretion over bathroom breaks. We know that emergencies arise and we always want the physical, social, and emotional health of our students to remain our top priority. For lunch, parents/guardians are welcome to drop off food in the front office (Admin A) for students; however, students are not allowed to utilize delivery apps such as DoorDash. In regards to credits, students can earn up to 8 credits this year. Students need 6 credits to become sophomores. We encourage students and families to track grades, credits, absences, and tardies in Skyward. In addition, we will communicate with you when students are in danger of losing credits to discuss credit recovery opportunities. To earn credits, attendance does matter. State law dictates that students must be in attendance 90% of the instructional time in that class to receive credit; therefore, grades and attendance both contribute to students receiving credit for each class. Lastly, student ID cards must be worn at all times. If students forget their card, we will print them a temporary card. If students lose their card, they can receive a new card for $5. Wearing student ID cards is a district expectation for high school students. So far, our students are doing better at remembering them each day.

It has been an amazing start to the school year. We love our students and know that by working together as a team with you, it will be productive, fun, and successful for the Class of 2027!

House Bill 114 House Bill 114

States the conditions under which a student may be either removed from class and placed in a disciplinary alternative education program, or expelled from a school for the possession, use, or delivery of marijuana or e-cigarettes on or near a public school property or at certain school events.

Due to the new law, there have been updates to the WISD Student Code of Conduct regarding the possession of vapes in schools. House Bill 114, adopted by the state, requires school districts to send students who are in possession of or use vapes, whether THC or Nicotine, to DAEP (Bridge). Vapes containing THC (marijuana), in addition to being a mandatory placement, can result in a felony arrest.

It's never to early to learn how to be exempt from exams in December!

Student ID Badges Student ID Badges

This is just a reminder that WISD secondary students must wear their ID badges daily. Here are some district guidelines for students:

  • ID cards must be hung on a lanyard around the neck during the entire school day.

  • ID cards must be worn with the picture facing out.

  • ID cards must not be defaced or altered (no personal stickers, no coloring, etc.)
  • ID cards must be worn on the outermost layer of clothing.

Students will receive a new ID card each school year. While every student's first ID card is provided at no cost, we will maintain the policy of a $5 replacement fee to be charged for any damaged or lost cards.

NGC purchased breakaway black lanyards for all freshmen. Students may trade out their lanyards, if they prefer.

Online Payments

If you need to pay for lost student IDs, library books, Chromebook fees, and other upcoming school-sponsored events, please utilize the link below. We will no longer be taking cash for student ID replacements. Just a reminder that all students receive a student ID card from the campus. Students are responsible for keeping up with the ID. Students only have to pay for replacement cards if they are lost or misplaced.
