We were recently notified that Moultrie’s Graduation and May Day are both scheduled for May 20th. To give families the opportunity to attend both events, May Day will be held from 8:30–9:30 a.m. on May 20th.
This schedule will allow families plenty of time to make their way to Seacoast for Moultrie’s 11:00 a.m. graduation. We hope this timing allows families to celebrate both special occasions!

🐠Coastal Connections with Ms. Galipeau🐬
In November, Ms. Rice and I will take the top 15 Fun Run fundraisers, along with 5 additional randomly selected fundraisers, on a special trip to my favorite place: the South Carolina Aquarium!
Not only will we learn about the native animals and ecosystems of South Carolina, but we will also get to take a special behind-the-scenes tour of the Aquarium’s Great Ocean Tank! Let me tell you why the Great Ocean Tank,or GOT, as it is affectionately called, is so special!
Looking into the GOT is like peering into the ocean right off our coast. It gives us a glimpse of not one, but two incredible habitats that exist just offshore: deep-sea coral reefs and the open ocean.
Reef Habitat
People are often surprised to hear that we have coral reefs off the coast of South Carolina. When most people picture coral reefs, they imagine the warm, tropical reefs of the Caribbean. However, South Carolina is home to deep-sea coral reef systems located about 160 miles offshore and roughly half a mile beneath the surface.
These reefs thrive on nutrient-rich water and provide habitat for an incredible diversity of fish and invertebrates. You don't have to travel 160 miles offshore to see some of these amazing animals, though! The GOT brings a glimpse of this ecosystem right to us. If we're lucky, we might even spot the tank's resident loggerhead sea turtle, Caretta, resting among the coral.
Deep-Sea Habitat
The GOT is the deepest saltwater aquarium tank in North America, reaching an incredible 42 feet deep! The upper portion of the tank is home to animals that prefer swimming through the open ocean rather than hiding among coral and rocky crevices. These include large sport fish, such as jacks of all kinds: jack crevalle, amberjacks, horse-eye jacks, blue runners, rainbow runners, and many more. You might also spot a giant cobia, great barracuda, Atlantic spadefish, and several species of sharks! Sand tiger sharks, blacknose sharks, and sandbar sharks can all be found cruising through the deep water of the GOT. Some of these sharks can grow to 9 feet long! Getting to see these incredible animals up close is a thrill!
There are so many reasons to fundraise for the upcoming Fun Run. Every dollar raised helps strengthen SIES and continue offering amazing opportunities to our wonderful Skimmers. But a fun, educational trip to the Great Ocean Tank? That's the cherry on top of the sundae!
I can't wait to take 20 hardworking students to visit one of the most fun, fascinating, and educational places in town: the South Carolina Aquarium!

Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month in the Art Room!
This month, our Skimmer artists celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month by learning about contemporary artists from diverse cultural backgrounds. Students explored themes of play, place, identity, joy, connection, and family while developing their own ideas and experimenting with a variety of materials and techniques.
Our Kindergarten and CD artists explored the playful paintings and paper sculptures of Marta Minujín. First graders redesigned lighthouses inspired by Okuda San Miguel, using bold shapes, patterns, and color. Second grade created self-portraits inspired by the expressive textile-based work of Victoria Villasana, while third grade explored color, pattern, and joyful expression through the work of Romero Britto. Fourth grade investigated geometric design and mathematical patterns inspired by Gabriel Dawe’s woven installations. Fifth grade created personal family symbols inspired by Justin Favela’s colorful piñata-style artwork.
Keep the art conversation going at home!
