Hi, Parents/Guardians,

I hope you are all doing well! Our FALL BOOK FAIR starts Friday, November 1st and ends Friday, November 8th. Our book fair will be held in our school Media Center (Library). Listed below is information pertaining to our book fair:

*JR Ingram Book Fair Page:

Use the link or QR code below to access Ingram’s online book fair page and to set up an eWallet for your child.

https://www.scholastic.com/bf/jringramelementaryschool

*eWallet: Parents are able to set up an eWallet account for your child. You put an amount for your child to spend at the book fair. The amount is automatically deducted from their eWallet account at the time of purchase. Directions for setting up an eWallet account can be found on the JR Ingram Book Fair page. This payment option is very easy and popular with parents!

*7% Sales Tax is added to each purchase. For example, if your child purchases a book at $4.99, the total amount will be $5.34.

*Students are allowed to visit the book fair during the following times:

-school hours from 7:30-2:30 (with teacher permission)

-scheduled library special time

-scheduled book fair/school events with parents/guardians

-Parents may visit the book fair after 10:30 during your child’s lunch and recess times.

-Parents are not permitted to take students out of class to visit the book fair.

*Special Book Fair Events

-Thursday, November 7th: Book Fair Late Night

-The Book Fair will be open until 6:00 pm for families to shop.

-The first 5 families to arrive at 3:00, 4:00, 5:00, will receive a $5.00 coupon to use at the book fair!

*$1.00 Book Table

-The $1.00 book table consists of new and/or gently used donated books for students to purchase. These books must be paid with cash.

*Book Fair Raffle: Any student that makes a purchase from the book fair will be entered into a raffle. Names will be drawn at the end of the day on the last day of the book fair and winners will be notified the following week.

*Teacher Book Fair Wish List: We have an area of the library where our teacher book wish lists will be displayed during the book fair. Teachers fill out a Book Fair Wish List with titles of books they would like to have for their classroom library.

Students and parents are able to purchase a book for their teacher if they’d like to do so.

We sold over 1,200 books at our Spring 2024 book fair. That amounted to 200 books sold each day of the 6 day book fair. FABULOUS!! With your continued support, we hope to sell 2,000 at our fall book fair. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at brandyparker@lee.k12.nc.us.

Thanks for your time,

Mrs. Parker

At-Home Reading Tips At-Home Reading Tips

from Reading Interventionist Amy Keister

  • Visit our local library! Your child will be able to explore a variety of topics and books that may be of interest to them. Visiting the library gives them the opportunity to explore many books and it’s free! The Lee County Library is located at 107 Hawkins Avenue and is open Monday-Thursday 9am-8pm and Friday/Saturday 9am-5pm.

  • Read, read, read! Students should read for at least 30 minutes each day. This reading may be done independently, to an adult or taking turns with a sibling or friend.

  • Ask questions! When reading with your child, it is important to ask questions along the way. Here are a few examples:

    • What do you predict will happen?

    • Who are the characters?

    • What is the setting?

    • What is the main idea?

    • What is/was the problem?

    • What was the solution?

    • Can you retell the story in your own words (beginning, middle, end)?

    • Was there a lesson learned in this story?

  • Children learn by example! Let your child see you reading. It might be a book, cookbook, magazine, newspaper or a variety of other texts.

  • If you have any questions about how you can help your child more at home, please contact Mrs. Keister at amykeister@lee.k12.nc.us.

  • If your child arrives on campus after 8:00 a.m., the parent or guardian must park and accompany the student in the building and sign him/her in at the front desk.
  • Car riders should enter and exit the car on the passenger side along the curb.
  • Early Pick-Ups:
  • If your child must be signed out early, parents must arrive at the office by 2:00 p.m. Please realize the impact on your child’s education when he/she is consistently late to school or picked up early. Not only will they be missing valuable instructional time, but early sign-outs are an interruption to the teacher and the remaining students.

If you know you have an appointment, please send a note to your child’s teacher so they can prepare for your child’s early dismissal with minimum disruption to class.

An important part of good school attendance is being on time for class and staying for the entire day. Please work with us to ensure that your child can make the most of their instructional day.

We will not make any transportation changes or release students between 2:00 –2:30 p.m. unless there is an emergency or unless the change or early dismissal has been pre-approved by the principal or assistant principal. .
  • If your child is absent from school, he/she must have a note from parents when he/she returns. Examples of excused absences are illness or injury, quarantine, death in immediate family, religious observation, certain educational opportunities with prior approval of the principal, and medical or dental appointments.

    • A note from a doctor is needed if a child is absent for three or more days.

    • If your child leaves before he/she has completed 151 minutes of instruction, they will be counted absent for the day.

    • Upon return, your child has three days to make up work he/she has missed.

    • Each unexcused tardy and early pick-up results in your child missing valuable instructional time. After 5 unexcused tardies or early pick-ups, BIP may be assigned to help your child make up this missed instructional time. Unexcused tardies and Early Pick-Ups will affect eligibility for attendance awards.

    • Sixteen (16) absences excused or unexcused may result in retention. As a courtesy to you, we will periodically send you reminders of how many absences your children have if they accumulate more than three unexcused absences.

  • NO transportation changes can be made over the telephone. There will be NO exceptions to this policy.

  • Electronic devices should be off and in student book bags/backpacks during the school day. If a student’s cell phone is out or disrupts the school day with noise/ringing then the cell phone will be confiscated and parents will be called to pick up the item(s) at the end of the school day (between 2:30-3:30 pm). The school will not be held responsible for items that are broken or stolen at school or school sponsored activities.
