A Message from the Principal
This is our last week for the 1st 9 Weeks. Students need to have all of their work turned in by the end of the day on Thursday so teachers can get things graded and entered on Friday.
If your child is missing assignments and needs additional support, we have ASAP available Monday-Thursday from 3:30-4:30 pm.
Teachers will also be pulling students throughout the week to help get them caught up as well.

Anti-Bullying Week at JWMS
Next week is Anti-Bullying Week throughout the state of Kansas! Students have been learning in CharacterStrong how to define bullying using the “Three P’s” (Pain, Pattern, Power) and strategies to stand up for peers experiencing bullying. During the week, they’ll take on kindness challenges, talk more about upstander behavior, recognize peers for kind actions, and be celebrated in class meetings both through peer and staff nominations.
We’d love for you to continue the conversation at home by asking, “What does kindness look like at school?”
KCTC Survey
Today, our 6th graders (who we received parent consent for) participated in the Kansas Communities That Care (KCTC) survey, and our 8th graders will be completing it soon. The KCTC survey is a statewide, anonymous student survey that asks about school climate, friendships, substance use, and other factors that affect student well-being. The results help schools and communities better understand the experiences of young people and guide prevention and support efforts.
Student Leadership Team
We’re excited to kick off a Student Leadership Team (SLT) at JWMS this year! SLT will give students the opportunity to represent their peers, build leadership skills, and contribute to a positive school culture. Students learned about SLT in their advisory classes this week, and those interested can apply by working with a mentor teacher and completing an application and interview. Three students from each grade will be selected. Applications are due Friday, October 10th, and we’ll follow up with each applicant to schedule interviews following submission of their application.
After School Assistance Program
ASAP is available Monday-Thursday when school is in session from 3:30-4:30 pm. This will be held in Mrs. Kahler's room, and is a great opportunity for students to get help and support on any of their missing work.
Please let the office know if you would like your child to attend. They must be willing to work and not goof off or distract others from their work. They must be picked up on time as well.
