Congratulations on Retirement!
Indian River School Principal Kevin Towle will retire at the end of the school year, capping 14 years as the school's leader and more than 40 years in public education.
He is the longest-serving principal in the history of Indian River School. During the 2021-2022 school year, he also served as Interim Principal at Mascoma Valley Regional High School.
A 1978 graduate of the University of Maine at Presque Isle with a Bachelor of Science in Education, Towle furthered his academic journey by earning a Master's degree from the University of Maine at Orono in 1998. He dedicated more than 30 years to teaching and administration in Maine before joining MVRSD in 2011.
Throughout his tenure, Towle received several accolades, including Honorable Mention Administrator of the Year awards from the New Hampshire Parent Teacher Association in 2010 and 2011, and the prestigious Administrator of the Year award in 2013.
In 2017, Towle led a transformative school-wide improvement initiative, working closely with faculty to achieve recognition as a Spotlight School by the New England League of Middle Schools. This collective effort culminated in the official award being presented to Indian River School in December 2023.
"Mr. Towle’s leadership, dedication, and passion for education have made a lasting impact on the students and staff at Indian River School, and he will be greatly missed," said Superintendent Amanda Isabelle. "The staff will miss the stories of Maine and wish him all the best in his well-deserved retirement."
Welcome Our New Principal!
Superintendent Amanda Isabelle is pleased to share that Karin Denholm will be returning to the Mascoma Valley School District to serve as Principal of Indian River School for the 2025-2026 school year.
Denholm served as Assistant Principal at Mascoma Valley Regional High School from 2017-2020, where she oversaw daily operations, some curriculum and instructional practices, and several committees helping MVRHS to clarify and reflect upon its instructional and operational goals.
Denholm began her educational career in 2003 as a Grade 8 teacher at Charlestown Middle School in Charlestown. She was named the Fall Mountain Regional School District’s Teacher of the Year in 2011.
She joined Cornish School District in 2020 and currently serves as Principal of Cornish Elementary School.
Denholm holds a Bachelor’s degree in Childhood Studies from Plymouth State University. She also earned a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Southern New Hampshire University, where she was named an Outstanding Graduate in 2016.
“I am very excited to be returning to the Mascoma Valley Regional School District,” she said. “In the days since being hired, it has been humbling to receive so many kind words from the community. I look forward to meeting the staff, students, and families, and to working together to find the best path forward for Indian River School.”

Indian River School has a negative lunch balance of over $2,300.
If your student has a balance you will receive an email and mailed letter with the amount due, and the lunch number to help set up an account on MyMealtime. If you prefer not to use the website checks and cash can be given directly to the cafeteria employee to put towards the account, or feel free to drop it off at the office and we will get it to them.
Hannaford Helps
Do you shop at Hannaford? Did you know that just by shopping there you can help schools?
Now through June 7, 2025 you can earn money to put towards schools by looking for a black tag attached to the price tag that reads "Helps Schools". For every 4 products you earn $3 towards the school of your choice!
There are two ways to make sure the school gets credit, by scanning the QR code on the Helps Schools receipt, or send the physical copy in with your student. See the Document below for more information.
Reminders
Cell Phone Use
We have seen an increase in cell phone use throughout the school day including in the middle of class. We would like to reiterate the cell phone policy for Indian River School, if a student MUST use their cell phone they should ask to go to the office where they are able to use it. It should not be out in class, lunch, activity period/recess or the hallway.
Electronic Devices During School: Though students may have their cell phone and other electronic devices on their person or in their locker throughout the school day, these items may not be out without explicit permission from a staff member between 7:40 am and 3:00 pm. If these items become visible, even if they are not in use, the student in possession of the electronic device will be given a verbal warning. If the electronic device is not removed from view immediately, or if the electronic device becomes visible again in the same school day, the student will be referred to the administration. Electronic devices that reach the administration will be confiscated for the duration of the school day and returned to the student upon dismissal. If a student is referred to the administration for the possession of an electronic device for a second time in the same school year, that device will be confiscated and will be returned, not to the student, but to the parent or guardian of that student. Each subsequent violation of the school’s electronic policy will result in the same consequence for the duration of the school year.
