We have so many fun activities planned for the final five weeks—including exciting field trips, engaging class projects, and a special End-of-Year Celebration. It’s a wonderful way to wrap up the year and celebrate all the hard work and accomplishments from your child’s 4K experience.

End of the Year Reminders

Math and Literacy Activities for Home

As the children are finishing up the year, they are practicing the many skills they have learned throughout the year. To support your child at home during the month of May and over the summer, here are some literacy and math activities you can do with your child.

Math

Math Activities

Math (as well as literacy) is all around us! Include numbers in your daily conversations and in your child’s play.

Some simple math activities include:

  • Counting fruit snacks or crackers in a package

  • Counting toys during cleanup

  • Looking for numbers while driving or shopping

You can also extend these activities by having your child:

  • Sort items by color, size, or shape

  • Compare groups using words such as “more,” “less,” or “equal”

  • Talk about which group has the most or the fewest items

Thank you for supporting your child’s learning at home. Wishing your family a fun, safe, and enjoyable summer!

Literacy

Literacy Activities

Read, Read, Read!

One of the single most important activities you can do with your child is read. Reading together is so much more than just reading the words in a book. Take time to:

  • Let your child look closely at the pictures

  • Ask questions about the pictures

  • Encourage your child to tell the story using the pictures

Another helpful strategy is to point to each word as you read. Ask your child to point to the words (track the print) while listening to the story. To extend this activity, ask your child to:

  • Find specific letters in the print

  • Look for familiar words

  • Identify letters in their name

Write, Write, Write!

Your child has done many activities at school involving writing. Encourage your child to continue writing at home. Children can practice:

  • Writing letters

  • Writing their name

  • Writing words

  • Creating simple sentences

Writing can be fun using many different materials—not just markers or crayons! Try using:

  • Sidewalk chalk

  • A paintbrush and water outside

  • Finger writing in sand, shaving cream, or mud on a rainy day

Tucker's Rules Tucker's Rules

Be Safe. Be Kind. Be Responsible.

This month children will practice using all their skills independently. We will provide opportunities for students to independently problem solve, express feelings, and appropriately identify feelings of others.

Be A Super Friend

Your child can color in one Tucker every time they have been a super friend and follow a routine. When the coloring sheet is full, have your child bring the sheet back to the classroom for a special surprise.

Parking Lot Reminders

Drop off and pick up is a busy time at the ELC. Thank you for continuing to keep each other safe! We especially appreciate you being good role models by showing our young children how to be safe and responsible in a parking lot. Please continue to park in the designated parking lot during drop off/pick up times and use crosswalks. Those parents parking in the East lot, please use caution pulling out of parking spaces. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Mrs. McKillip.

Early Learning Center | Sheboygan Area School District

Children begin their educational journey at the Early Learning Center, learning through play and exploration. This school is designed exclusively for the education of preschool children. Four-year-old kindergarten is an optional program for students and is a wonderful introduction to kindergarten.
