Monroe's Reading Roundup
Excellence, Equity, Empowerment. Every student, Every day.
Principal Message
Dear Monroe Mustang Families,
At Monroe, we believe in the unlimited potential of every child and are committed to ensuring that each of our Mustangs achieves at high levels. As we reflect on our most recent reading data, we see both reasons to celebrate and areas where we must push forward with urgency and focus.
Last spring, 65.59% of our students were at or above grade level on DIBELS, 55.49% on the state MCA Reading test, and 43.01% on the NWEA Reading assessment. While these numbers show that progress is being made over the last three years, they also remind us that we are not yet where we want to be. Our vision is clear: every student reading at grade level, with at least one year of academic growth each school year.
To reach this goal, we have taken bold steps as a school community:
-
Aligned our master schedule to ensure daily reading instruction rooted in the science of reading.
-
Strengthened our collaborative teacher teams to share best practices and drive continuous improvement.
-
Aligned curriculum and increased rigor to both support students’ needs and challenge them to excel.
-
Focused on attendance, knowing that students must be present and engaged every day to reach their fullest potential.
We are fortunate to have a team of highly qualified, dedicated, and passionate educators at Monroe who are ready to do whatever it takes to help students succeed. Together, with the partnership of our families, we will continue to build momentum, celebrate growth, and ensure that each of our Mustangs is equipped to thrive in reading and beyond.
Thank you for trusting us with your children and for partnering with us in this important work. The journey ahead requires focus, persistence, and teamwork, and I am confident that when we work together, our students will rise to meet and exceed these expectations. Should you have the opporunity to support Reading at home, this newsletter is dedicated to supporting reading at home.
