How Sweet It Is at Wylie Elementary
Wylie Elementary August Family Newsletter
Principal's Message
Welcome to a brand-new school year at Wylie Elementary! We are so excited to welcome our Cubs and families back for what we know will be a wonderful year.
Our theme this year is “We Love It Here… How Sweet It Is at Wylie Elementary!” More than just a fun theme, it represents the kind of school we want WES to be—a place where students feel safe, supported, challenged, and excited to come to school each day. We want our staff to love where they work, our students to love where they learn, and our families to feel proud to be part of the Wylie community.
As we begin the year, we look forward to partnering with you to make Wylie Elementary a place where every child can learn, grow, belong, and thrive.
Here’s to a SWEET year at WES! ❤️

Campus Highlights
Household Income Survey
Please take a few minutes to complete this survey for our campus. By completing this survey, you are supporting our school's Title 1 funding. The data we receive from the forms help us offer free academic programs, get updated resources, and provide enrichment opportunities for all students. We can qualify for additional academic support, classroom resources, update our technology, get free school supplies and offer the after-school family events at no cost to the parents.
Students who have the form completed by September 4th will:
Receive a coupon for a FREE cookie from the cafeteria.
Receive 10 Cub Bucks to spend in the campus store.
Have their name entered in a drawing for a scooter. We will draw one name from each grade level on September 25th.
Counselor's Corner
Character Word for August is Cooperation!
During the month of August, students will be focusing on the character word Cooperation. Cooperation is “working together to reach a shared goal.” Cooperation teaches students how to work together, listen to others, share ideas, and solve problems as a team. Just like in any team sport, learning to cooperate helps create kindness and respect where everyone succeeds.
Counselors will be going into classroom during the month of August to introduce themselves to students, and work with teachers getting to know the students.
WES has a new counselor this year, Lindsey McMurrey. Lindsey started out teaching at WES several years ago before moving to the Primary campus as a teacher. WES is proud to welcome her back in her new role as counselor!
Attendance Matters
📚✨ Attendance Matters at Wylie Elementary! ✨📚
Every day counts—and it adds up fast!
📌 Did you know?
✅ Missing just 2 days a month = over 18 days a year
✅ Students who miss 9+ days a year are more likely to struggle in reading & math
✅ Good attendance builds strong habits for school and life
🛑 Skipping even a few days can make it harder to catch up!

Family Engagement Opportunites
💙 Get Involved with PTO!
Looking for a great way to get involved at Wylie Elementary? Join our PTO! PTO is a wonderful way to connect with other families, support our students and staff, and help make WES an even better place to learn and grow. Whether you have a little time or a lot, there’s a place for you! We’d love to have you be part of the fun and help make this a year our Wylie families will LOVE! ❤️
Dads on Deck is a great opportunity for males in the community to get involved in the school. Male involvement from the community in an elementary school setting is incredibly valuable—not only for academic success, but for emotional development and social confidence in our students.
Campus Reminders & Procedures
- School day is 7:45-3:15. The campus will open the doors at 7:10. Please do not drop your child off if the doors are not open and a staff member is not on duty.
- Free breakfast and lunch for all students.
- Lunch visitors can start on September 8th. Remember, your child may not invite friends to sit with them and only bring food for your child.
- Car tags are required for afternoon pick-up. No cell phones in the car drop off/pick up lines. This will help keep our students and staff safe and speed up the process.
🚗 A Note About Afternoon Dismissal-
- As we kick off a new school year, we kindly ask for your patience and understanding during afternoon dismissal. The first few days often take a bit longer as students, staff, and families learn the routines and ensure that every child gets home safely.
- Our top priority is always student safety, and we appreciate your support as we work to make the process as smooth and efficient as possible.
- Please know:
- We are working hard to refine our systems each day.
- Your cooperation helps keep things safe and orderly for everyone.
- Things will get quicker and smoother each day—thank you for bearing with us!
We’re grateful for your partnership and flexibility as we settle into the year. Together, we’ve got this!
