Testing Season has Arrived!!
Our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students started taking their NSCAS tests this week, and we are gearing up to finish those AND complete our District assessments (MAP Growth and Acadience Assessments for all K-5th grade students). Teachers will be talking to your child(ren) about their personal goals for end of year testing. Take some time to ask your child(ren) about their goals and how they are going to work to meet their goals! One of the easiest ways to work toward testing goals is to practice IXL skills at home for an extra 10 minutes a day. CLICK HERE to see all of the research behind IXL!
Our S-RC Testing Schedule

Ready, Set, Go! 3rdâ6th Track & Field Day
Get those running shoes laced up! We are thrilled to announce that our annual 3rdâ6th Grade Track & Field Day is scheduled for Wednesday, April 29th. The excitement begins at 12:30 PM, and we aim to wrap up all events by 3:15 PM to ensure a smooth transition for bus departures. Please note that students do not need to worry about lunch arrangements, as everyone will be fed at school before heading out to the meet.
To ensure everyone stays safe and performs their best, please make sure your child comes to school in proper athletic gear. This includes comfortable moving clothes and athletic or tennis shoes. For safety reasons, students will not be permitted to compete in sandals, boots, or jeans. We also highly encourage each student to bring their own water bottle or jug to stay hydrated throughout the afternoon.
Regarding participation, the deadline for students to sign up for their specific events is Tuesday, April 21st via PowerSchool. If you have any questions regarding the sign-up process on PowerSchool, please contact Wendi Sanley in the Elementary Office. For any other general questions about the dayâs activities, feel free to reach out to Mr. Kuhn.
We love having parents join us to cheer on our athletes! If you plan to take your child home directly from the event, please remember that students are only permitted to leave once the entire meet has ended. Additionally, you must check out with your childâs classroom teacher before departing. Thank you for your continued support in making this a fantastic day for our studentsâwe are excited for another great year at the track!

Character Trait of the Month
We are excited to focus on Courage this month!
Courage is choosing what is helpful, right, and Kind â even when itâs hard or scary. Whatâs something that youâve been afraid to discuss with your child(ren)? Something that might be difficult to explain about our community or the world. Chances are they will hear about it eventually and it may come from someone who is less informed or less supportive than you. Have a Courageous conversation with your student. It could be about bullying, the environment, uncertainty, etc. Remind them that love and support are 2 tools that we can use to practice Courage. Discuss ways to practice Courage around the issue you discuss.
Conversation Starters
- How do you know if you are showing Courage?
- Can you share a time this week when you were not able to stay engaged? What could you have done differently?
The Inclusive Corner with Mrs. Stewart & Mrs. Hoadley
April is Autism Awareness Month, and April 2nd is World Autism Awareness Day.
We are inviting everyone to wear BLUE on Tuesday, April 7th to show our support and spread Autism acceptance and inclusion at our school.
- Autism Spectrum Disorder affects 1 in 36 children in the United States.
- Boys are 5 times more likely to be diagnosed with Autism than girls.
- Kids with Autism are amazing friends!!!
Summer School
We will be having Summer School through the month of June. Classes will be from 8:00-12:00 daily. This is a great opportunity for students to work on any skills that they missed throughout the school year, make sure that there is no summer slide, and catch up to - or stay at grade level on all priority standards.
Summer School will be by invitation only and will serve those students who are in need of the most help. While we understand that some parents may want their children to participate, if the need for summer school is not there - we will not be able to accommodate all students.
Summer School invitations will be coming out soon! Those invitations will be based on data from NSCAS Testing, MAP Growth Assessments, Acadience Assessments, and classroom teacher recommendations.
If your child receives an invitation, please return it as soon as possible with a YES or NO marked. We will continue inviting students until classes are full at each grade level.
Parking Lot Safety
Please remember: adults need to come to the sidewalk to escort students to their vehicles. We will not allow any students to run across the parking lot to waiting cars. There is simply too much traffic and the beginning and end of the day, and the safety risk is far too high. We must ensure all students are safe.
We also ask that vehicles only pick up students if they are parked in either a parking spot or in the loading zone. Do not stop in front of the sidewalk (by the front door) blocking traffic to attempt a pick-up. This causes congestion for all cars trying to get through the lot and causes safety issues for all.
Kindergarten Roundup 2039
Kindergarten Round-Up is scheduled for Friday, May 1st. Once your child is on our list, you will get a packet to let you know more information about Kindergarten Round-Up!! Packets will be sent out in the first 10 days of April.
If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Thompson at hthompson@shelby.esu7.org
*** Current kindergarten students: You will not have school on this day, as our preschoolers will be taking over your classrooms! Please mark your calendars as well.

Preschool Enrollment
Mark your calendars for March 1st! Our preschool enrollment will begin on March 1st, and this year we will continue our digital enrollment format available through our S-RC website (links on the website will not be there until March 1st). You will need to fill out all enrollment forms, and then prior to the first day of school in August, you will need to bring in your child's original birth certificate and immunization records. Ideal times to bring in those forms would be before the last day of school OR at our Preschool Open House in the Fall.
