Westmoor Weekly 12/19/2025
December 19, 2025
A Note from Principal Eck
Dear Westmoor Families,
What an incredible week filled with both learning and fun! Our students participated in a variety of meaningful experiences as we continued to implement our new literacy curriculum and wrapped up the first module. Second graders in Dr. Anderson’s class created blankets for Project Linus (picture below), while third graders showed kindness by helping roly-polies safely "cross the road". Our band students also delighted us with music during lunch (pictures above). All of this took place during our spirited Spirit Week, highlighted by wacky sweaters and cozy flannel pajamas. Thank you for entrusting us with your children—we truly enjoyed every moment with them.
Winter break will begin on Monday, December 22, and end on Friday, January 2. Classes will resume on Monday, January 5. During the break, the school office will be closed; however, I will be available via email for any time-sensitive needs.
A special thank you to our incredible Westmoor PTO for providing a delicious lunch and desserts for our staff this Wednesday. Your continued support makes a meaningful difference in our school community, and we are deeply grateful.
As we approach the much-anticipated winter break, we extend our warmest wishes to you and your families. We hope the season brings joy, rest, and cherished time together.
The next Westmoor Weekly will be published on January 9, 2026. We look forward to learning and working with you in the new year!

Westmoor Featured on Insight 28 Podcast
This season of the district's Insight 28 podcast takes listeners behind the scenes of the exciting changes happening across our schools as part of the district's Build 28 initiative, made possible by our community's support of the $94.9 million referendum passed last spring. The third episode of the year focuses on the design plans underway at Westmoor, with special guest Principal Eck. Click here to give it a listen!
District 28 Weather/Outdoor Policy
Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather. The District 28 weather policy is: Students go outside for recess every day as long as the "feels like" temperature is above 10 degrees. We use weather.com to be consistent. There are some days in the morning that it will not be warm enough to be outside but by lunch recess it will have warmed up. Please send your student daily with the items they will need throughout the day. Winter has rapidly descended upon us, students must have boots, snow pants, and gloves to be allowed to play in the snow.
Share a picture with us!
We’re excited to showcase the special moments and achievements of our students and their families. Whether it’s a holiday, cultural tradition, a child’s milestone like riding a bike without training wheels, a big win at a soccer game, welcoming a new pet, or anything else that makes you proud — we’d love to feature it! Here is the link to share a photo and brief description.

DISTRICT NEWS
Attention 4th Grade Families: Math Placement
If your child is not currently placed in advanced math and you wish to request a math placement review, this parent nomination Google form must be completed by January 12, 2026.
Parent nomination Google form links can also be found on the District 28 website, under Gifted and Talented. Please visit our website for additional information on the district’s Gifted and Talented Services and District Assessments.
If you have a child in grade 3 or grade 5, you should have received an email on November 17 with information on placement review. For grade 5, this includes a review of all students for math placement in the winter and spring of their 5th-grade year. This process determines placement for 6th grade into one of three math courses: Grade 6, Accelerated 6, or Pre-Algebra 6.
Winter Weather Reminders
As we head into January, we would like to remind families of District 28's inclement weather protocol. Decisions about closing schools for inclement weather are made by the Superintendent of Schools, in coordination with other Northfield Township superintendents and local, county, and state emergency management officials. In the event of inclement weather, our priority is to close all schools. We have currently identified June 3-5, 8-9, 2026, as emergency days in the calendar. We will use those dates if we need to make up any inclement weather days this year. If the district cancels school, families will be notified via a phone call, text message, and email. You can also find the information on the district website, Facebook page, and Instagram page.
