Message from Ms. Lahey
Greetings, Hembree Families,
Our Thanksgiving Feast was an incredible success, and it’s all thanks to YOU!
We are so grateful to all the families who joined us—your presence made the day truly special. Seeing everyone together and enjoying the beautiful student artwork was such a joy. And of course, the excitement around the book fair was contagious! Our students absolutely love it, and it’s wonderful to watch their enthusiasm for reading grow.
A heartfelt thank you to Ms. Linda Hill for preparing a delicious feast that everyone enjoyed. We also want to give special recognition to Laura Stowers, and Jenny Soberanis for their hard work and dedication in making our Art Show and Book Fair such a memorable event. Your efforts behind the scenes truly made the day shine.
We are also deeply appreciative of our amazing PTA for providing a delicious lunch for the staff on Thursday, November 20th. You made our Thankful Thursday extra special, and we can’t thank you enough for your generosity.
Our clubs are thriving, and it’s inspiring to see the teamwork, creativity, and joy our students experience in these activities. Thank you to everyone who helps make these opportunities possible.
On a personal note, I had the chance to attend the Georgia game last Saturday against Texas—what an incredible game! I even ran into one of our very own Hembree Hawks. This weekend’s matchup against Charlotte should be exciting, and I’m looking forward to the Georgia vs. Georgia Tech game at Mercedes-Benz on Friday, 11/28. It’s always a great rivalry, and I know it will be a fantastic game.
As Thanksgiving approaches, I’m filled with gratitude. I’ll be hosting family as I do every year, and I can’t wait to enjoy good food and great football.
I wish each of you a wonderful break and a Happy Thanksgiving. I am truly thankful for this amazing community and for being part of the Hembree family. Thank you for all you do for me and for our school—you make it the incredible place that it is.
Warm Regards,
Nancy Lahey

Student Success Skills for November
Student Success Skills – Self Management
One important skill for all children to learn is self-control and how to manage their strong emotions. A child needs to learn how to manage their strong feelings without having a tantrum, hitting, yelling, or crying easily. When a child has good self-control, they make friends more easily and are more successful in school. Self-control helps kids think before they act. A child with good self-control is more resistant to peer pressure.
At home, you can help your child practice self-control by discussing and modeling ways to calm down if they start feeling strong emotions. You can discuss and practice together the TAKE 5 method:
Take five deep breaths.
Count to five on your fingers
Slowly count to five in your head.
Close your eyes and picture the hands of a clock moving five ticks
Put your head down and count to five.
Write these steps down and post them somewhere they can see them. Model the TAKE 5 strategies yourself when you are feeling angry about something. The next time your child gets mad – do the TAKE 5 steps together.
Family Engagement Thursdays
Beanstack Reading App
Have you heard your child mention anything about an app called Beanstack? It was introduced in the Media Center. Beanstack is a digital reading log that students can use to log the number of minutes they are reading. They can earn badges and rewards along the way. If your child is reading at school, home, daycare, etc. they can log their minutes and help us get closer to our goal. The following is a video explaining how to use Beanstack from home. You can always find your child's lunch number/student number in infinite campus or email Mrs. Soberanis: soberanis@fultonschools.org. Happy Reading!
