Holiday in the Halls on Monday at High School

IF you have never walked through our high school during Holiday in the Halls, you need to make arrangements to come to the high school on Monday for this amazing event. All of the hallways in the high school are decorated in a wide variety of Christmas themes that you have to experience to believe. If you have attended in the past, come out again because the themes change each year, so you will get to see some new themes this year.

I have been in the school business for 30 years, and have never seen of anything like it.

The doors open at 6:00. After the event you can come listen to the amazing Grand Band Holiday Concert in the HS Auditorium.

Fairfield Bands to have Holiday Concerts on Monday & Tuesday

On Monday, the 6th grade band will play their holiday concert starting at 7:00 PM, followed by the Grand Band.

On Tuesday, the 7th & 8th grade bands will perform at 7:00, and they will be followed by the High School Jazz Band.

Come on out and listen to our young musicians demonstrate their hard work and practice throughout the year. I have shared over many years that band concerts are some of the very favorite school activities, even though I was never a band student. The reason I like them so much is that in one evening (in this case two) you can hear the progression and improvement from the beginning 6th grade band, to how they sound as 7th & 8th graders, then hear how a couple more years of practice sounds as a high school band. You get to hear this program progression in a matter of a couple of hours. I always remind parents that the high school musicians sounded just like the 6th grade students, when THEY were in 6th grade. If the current 6th graders stay in the program and continue to work on their instrument, they will make these same progressions over the next few years. I LOVE IT!!

Eagle Athletics

The Lady Eagles basketball team is off to a 9-1 season record with their only loss coming in the championship game of the Athens tournament on Saturday to Whitehouse. The Lady Eagles will begin their district schedule on Tuesday when they travel to Teague and then will host the Fairfield Tournament beginning Thursday. The JV girls competed in the Midway JV tournament on Thursday and Saturday.

The boys basketball team started their season on Tuesday night when they hosted Lovelady and picked up the win in both the varsity and JV games. The boys then travelled to the Athens tournament where they beat Kaufman, and then lost to Tyler Legacy, Marshall, and Temple, all of which are bigger schools and have most if not all of their team composed of players who do not also play football, so they have been practicing for well over a month. On Tuesday, the boys will travel to Venus and then will begin play in the Fairfield Tournament on Thursday. This is always an interesting time of year for teams that made a run in football because you end up having more games that practices at the beginning of the season. Practice time is very important when almost all of the team is comprised of players who also played football.

Junior High Athletics

The girls will hosted Mexia last Monday and won the B team game and the 8th A game. The boys travelled to Mexia and also won the combined B team game and the 8th A game. This week the girls will travel to Buffalo on Monday, and the boys will host Buffalo.
