National Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to celebrate the achievements, contributions, histories, traditions, and cultural diversity of Hispanic/Latino/Latinx Americans.
National Hispanic Heritage Month began as a week-long observance in 1968, expanded to a month-long observance in 1988, and was enacted into law that same year on the approval of Public Law 100-402.
September 15th was chosen as the starting date for this important celebration because it is the anniversary of independence for several Latin American countries.
The Conejo Valley Unified School District Board of Education encourages educators, students, and families to celebrate this year’s National Hispanic Heritage Month’s theme, "Collective Heritage: Honoring the Past, Inspiring the Future," by educating students on the culture (literature, art, music, dance), languages, traditions, cuisine, and positive contributions Hispanic, Latino and Latinx Americans have made in our country, district, and community.

Community Partnership Spotlight: #DonutHolesForGoals with TOPD
We continued to kick-off the new school year on a sweet note thanks to our incredible partnership with the Thousand Oaks Police Department! Over the last two weeks, their #DonutHolesForGoals outreach events made stops at Sequoia Middle, Conejo Valley High, Newbury Park High, Thousand Oaks High and Westlake High. At these events officers connected with students and encouraged them to set positive goals for the year ahead. In return students received affirmations, and donut holes. Thank you TOPD for this uplifting initiative that spread smiles and inspiration across our campuses!
Senior Sunrise Tradition Shines Bright at CVUSD High Schools
To kick off their final year, the Class of 2026 seniors at Conejo Valley High, Newbury Park High, Thousand Oaks High, and Westlake High will take part in the cherished tradition of Senior Sunrise. This special event gives students the opportunity to gather and watch the sunrise together—symbolizing the beginning of their final year in the CVUSD. The tradition will come full circle with Senior Sunset events at the end of the school year, marking the close of their TK-12 education, and bookending a meaningful milestone in their educational journey.
