A Message from Lister Community School: End of Half Term
Dear Parents and Carers,
As we reach the end of a busy and productive half term, we hope you and your families have a restful and enjoyable break. It's been a period filled with learning, growth, and some fantastic events here at Lister.
We've been focusing on some really important issues this half term, including Safer Internet Day and Children's Mental Health Week. These initiatives have provided valuable opportunities for students to learn about staying safe online and the importance of looking after their mental wellbeing. We encourage you to continue these conversations at home.
We also have the absolute pleasure of witnessing the incredible talent of our students in the school production of Matilda! The performance on Wednesday and Thursday will be truly spectacular, and we congratulate everyone involved, from the cast and crew to the dedicated staff who make it all possible. We look forward to welcoming you from 4.30 this afternoon, with the second show tomorrow. Thank you in advance to all who come to support this amazing event.
We hope you have a wonderful half-term break and look forward to welcoming the students back refreshed and ready for the challenges and opportunities of the next half term.
We will return to school on Monday 24th at the usual time.
Warmly,
The Lister Community School Team
Lister Under 13 Girls' Football Team
On Tuesday 11th February, 14 girls from Year 7 and 8 proudly represented Lister Community School in a competitive football tournament. Over the course of 20 games, the team demonstrated resilience, teamwork, and determination.
Although we didn’t place, the girls gave it their all, battling hard in every match, despite the very cold weather! They made some outstanding saves, worked brilliantly together, and showcased their attacking ability by scoring some great goals. Their energy and commitment never wavered, and they should be incredibly proud of their performances.
A special mention goes to our Player of the Tournament, Hanifa, who scored a fantastic goal and showed great skill throughout.
Well done to all the players for their hard work and sportsmanship!
Safer Internet Day 2025
Safer Internet Day 2025 took place on the 11th of February 2025, with celebrations and learning based around the theme ‘Too good to be true? Protecting yourself and others from scams online‘
Safer Internet Day is the UK’s biggest celebration of online safety. Each year we cover an online issue or theme that speaks about the things young people are seeing and experiencing online. Created in consultation with young people across the UK, this year Safer Internet Day focused on the issue of scams online and for young people, how to protect themselves and others, as well as what support is available to them.
This Safer Internet Day we explored the real scale of this issue and allowed our young people to share their experiences and ideas on how to tackle the problem. We build on the important work being done to raise awareness of issues such as online financial sextortion and we also considered the future of scams, answering questions such as:
- How is changing technology like generative AI going to impact the approach of scammers?
- What role can the government and internet industry take to tackle this threat?
- And what changes would young people like to see to help protect themselves moving forward?
Lister Deaf Students Shine at Panathlon Multi-Sports Competition
Deaf students from Lister Community School joined peers from across London for an exciting day at the Panathlon Multi-Sports Competition. It was a fantastic opportunity to compete, build confidence, and connect with other deaf students. The Lister team showed incredible determination and teamwork in events like boccia and relay races, embracing the challenge with enthusiasm. More than just sport, the day was about forming friendships and celebrating inclusion.
A huge well done to the Lister students and all who took part!
