SLEDMERE CE PRIMARY SCHOOL

WEEK ENDING 11TH SEPTEMBER 2020

SLEDMERE CEPRIMARY SCHOOLWEEK ENDING 11TH SEPTEMBER 2020

WELCOME AND THANK YOU

Dear Parents and Carers,

I am delighted to write to you following our first week back.

It has been lovely to spend time in both schools seeing our pupils learning and listening to our schools alive with energy and seeing happy faces. The variety and excitement is what makes our children and Federation so special.

I've seen children writing about dragons, hunting for minibeasts, reading gripping books, recalling Maths skills and playing with friends.

On behalf of all of the staff thank you for helping your child to be so well prepared for their return and thank you for your patience with the systems we have in place at this time. I appreciate that some things are more complicated than usual and that there may be some changes needed. As ever our priority is keeping everyone happy and safe.

We are all excited for the weeks ahead and I wish you all a peaceful weekend.

Mr Richardson

COMMUNICATION

We are always looking at ways to improve our communication. We have worked hard over Summer and are hoping to be able to share with you several refinements which will make everyone's lives easier. These will include the facility for us to contact your child and you directly should they need to be off school. We are also looking at sharing an app with you where all messages, newsletters and updates are in one place. We will keep you posted as soon as we are able.

We have a new telephone system in both schools which means that your call may be diverted to the other school. Please bear in mind that at this stage we only have Mrs Thurlow working between both sites. We have new admin staff starting very shortly.

In the meantime, we are continuing to follow the guidance that states we should make use of electronic communication to parents and carers. At this stage this continues to be via our website and text service.

REMINDERS

I'd like to remind all parents and carers of a several aspects to our return. I appreciate it has been a long and at times very strange period for many. Our return marks a step towards normality and we are eager to support you and your children in their schooling. I also understand that the amount of information which we have been asked to share with you may appear at times overwhelming. If there are any aspects of school life which you would like clarification on please don't hesitate to get in touch. We are pleased to help.

I'd like to remind everyone of some of the guidance that has to be followed:

  • Pupils are dropped off and collected by only one adult.
  • Parents drop off/collect at allocated time/point, maintaining social distance at all times.
  • Parents must not gather at gates/entrances and must not enter the building unless by prior appointment.

ILLNESS

At school

If your child becomes unwell at school and develops either a high temperature, or a new continuous cough, or a change in their normal sense of smell or taste, you will be asked to collect them immediately.

At home

If your child feels unwell please follow the usual systems for letting us know as soon as you are able that they are not able to attend. If you are concerned that they may have COVID-19 please do not send them in to school, but self-isolate and get a test as soon as possible. Please click this useful link to the NHS.

UPDATE ON SAFETY MEASURES FOR STAFF

We have today received guidance from the Local Authority and Pubic Health which recommends that all staff should wear face coverings when inside school buildings except when in the classroom or when eating and drinking. We will be doing so from Monday. (There is no guidance that children are expected to wear face coverings.)

COLLECTIVE WORSHIP AND CELEBRATION ASSEMBLIES

As we mentioned during the Summer Term Collective Worship is happening in every class on a daily basis, however we are unable to hold these with parents and carers at present. This is the same situation for Celebration Assemblies. We are very disappointed, but are already planning to hold some ZOOM Collective Worship sessions for the children every week. Teachers will continue to celebrate positive achievements and Growth Mindset in classes.
