Welcome back, Jardine Jaguars!
September 2025- Jaguar Junction Volume 1
Mr. Haag, Principal
Mrs. Hopp, Assistant Principal
A Note From The Principal - Mr. Haag
We are off to a very good start of the school year. Our first two and a half weeks have been very successful as teachers are building strong relationships with students and starting to challenge them academically. Students have started taking all of the beginning of the year assessments with MAP and Fastbridge that give some great Math and Reading data on each of our students as they grow in their individual learning.
Students checked out their chromebooks during the first two weeks of school. I want to remind parents and families to have an onboarding process in place at home to monitor your student's online usage as well as ensuring technology is charged each morning to assure they are prepared for learning. I also encourage families to have conversations with their students in regards to taking care of their chromebook, as families will be responsible for paying for damage and repair to those devices.
As we progress throughout the first quarter, we are here to partner with you to ensure the success of each of your students as they grow academically and socially. Please check your emails (both personal and Synergy) and voicemails on a routine basis for important information from the school.
A Note from the Assistant Principal - Ms. Hopp
We are so excited to kick off a wonderful new school year and look forward to working together to ensure our students have a successful start! As a reminder, our school dress code will be enforced daily to promote a safe and positive learning environment. Students who violate the dress code will be given the opportunity to correct the issue by changing into different clothing, borrowing from the school, or having a parent bring an acceptable option. If a student refuses to comply, it will become a disciplinary matter and may result in consequences. Please remember that coats, hats, bandanas, backpacks, string bags, and purses must be placed in student lockers and are not permitted to be carried during the school day. Clothing or items that display alcohol, violence, gangs, profanity, or anything otherwise deemed inappropriate by the administration will not be allowed. Additionally, blankets should be kept at home and not brought to school. Thank you for your support in helping us start the year on the right track!

GraceMed will be coming to JMS Thursday, September 4th. Please fill out and sign the pink forms that were sent home with your student.
Also, I will be sending home immunization forms. This is currently what
your student is still needing to have completed. The exclusion date is Tuesday, September 23rd. Please have completed by then or students will miss school starting September 24th.
Band - Ms. Rowe
Jardine students are already making wonderful music! 7th and 8th Grade Band students are planning to perform at the Middle School Football Classic October 15 at Hummer Sports Park.
6th Grade Band students are using “Measures of Success Book Two” in class. This is not the same book they used as beginners in 5th grade. Contact Mrs. Rowe if you have questions.
Check out the Jardine Middle School BAND Facebook page!
Drama Department - Ms. Rowe
This lively show is jam-packed with mad-cap action and modern, uproarious twists, retelling the fables like you’ve never quite heard them before through the menagerie of voices in poor Aesop’s head. The resentful Fox, the egomaniac Hare, the sluggish Tortoise, the zen-like Grasshopper and the Aunt (yes, his mother’s sister!) and more come to life as hysterical characters onstage that only Aesop can see and hear. With his mind crowded with all these big personalities, Aesop can hardly think straight. The only way to peace of mind and freedom is to let out the characters and share them with the world.
Auditions will take place September 8-10 after school in the Music Room (A-400). There will be an information meeting for parents and students immediately following the first practice on September 15 at 4:30 pm in the JMS Commons. Performances are November 13-14. Please call Tracy Rowe at 785-730-8125 or email trowe@trowetps501.org if you have questions.

PE Information - Ms. Remer & Mr. Mitchell
I CAN BE SUCCESSFUL IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION CLASS!
We are excited for our 2025-26 students in our Physical Education classes and we are doing very well. Don’t get me wrong there are PE trials and tribulations that come with the start of a new school year. Allow me to share a few of these so you can inquire with your students to see how they are adjusting to a new PE class with new expectations.
Some PE students face minor hardships:
learning a new schedule and finding the locker room/gym location in the allotted three minute passing time.
making sure their clothes and tennis shoes are appropriate for exercise.
remembering to pull their hair back for safety and hygiene purposes.
making sure they take off their jewelry for class. This way jewelry doesn't get broken or harm others during activities.
Again, please check with your PE student to make sure they are successful and encourage them to ask any questions. We will gladly help make their transition easier.
Activities in August/September:
Expectations, learning our daily, warm up routine, weekly Boy’s Town lessons, learning locations for fire, tornado, secured campus, and lockdown drills, universal attention signal, Two Team Pinball, Four Team Pinball, Deck Ring, Lacrosse, Steal the Stuff, Frizz, Go For the Gold, Reaction Ball, H-Ball, Bocce Ball, Relays, Doctor, Doctor, Football Skills, Four Down Football, Ball Tag, Tennis, Floor Hockey, Bean Bag Bowling, Scooter Bowling, Weights, Fitness Kickball, Flip Flop, Kickball and Kooshball.
Mr. Mitchell and I would like to thank all parents for sharing their amazing, healthy and kind students with us this year. We are looking forward to a fantastic 2025-26.

Math
6th Grade:
We are off to a great start in 6th grade math! We have started out learning Greatest Common Factor and Least Common Multiple. Next 6th graders will be extending 5th grade knowledge of fractions as they learn how to divide all types of fractions and add, subtract, multiply, and divide multi digit decimals. Decimals differ from 5th grade as 6th graders should become fluent in long division and use multi-digit decimals that extend past the hundredths place. Students use the IXL program on their chromebooks regularly in class for practice on concepts learned. Please encourage your student to charge their chromebook regularly to be prepared for class. Thank you!
7th Grade:
Seventh graders are jumping right into analyzing proportional relationships and using them to solve real world problems. This extends their 6th grade learning of ratios and incorporates more tables, graphs, and equations to represent the relationships. Next they will use geometric figures and scale factors to identify and produce scale drawings. Encourage good middle school habits of checking grades regularly and staying caught up on work as 7th graders have more extracurricular opportunities this year! Thanks.
8th Grade:
As our Eighth graders get closer to high school math classes they will be spending time working with equations and expressions. This month they will work to become fluent in solving one, two, and multi step equations and inequalities including those in which the variable is on both sides of the equal sign or inequality symbol. As students solve word problems, the variable in our problems will relate to real world mathematical situations. All of their 6th and 7th grade knowledge will come together as they work on this fluency. Algebra students will also be working with equations, but will work to solve more than one variable, compound inequalities, and rearrange formulas. Algebra students also work to explain and justify solutions and steps in solving equations and inequalities.
History Happenings
6th grade - Ancient World History
Hello Jardine families…. Welcome back for a new year. In Ancient World History we are going to be looking at the prehistoric era up to the Agricultural Revolution. Hominids, hunter-gatherers, and early farmers will be the main topic of study. The rise of civilizations. What is a civilization and more.
Ms. O’Rand and Mr. Jennings
6th Grade Ancient World History7th grade - Social Studies classes are learning World Geography, which currently means learning all about maps. Students are learning about different types of maps, their uses, and the elements on them that help us understand the information on them.
In addition, students are learning their states and capitals. In order to understand history, it is important to understand locations. We are looking forward to a great year of learning and fun as we study the 5 themes of Geography.
8th grade - Welcome back to school! In the 8th Grade United States History Class, the students are learning about the Constitution and how the government works. Parents, please ask your children about what they are learning about each day.
Science
HMH Science Dimensions™ is our online program for science. This will be our resource for readings, various assignments, and labs. Just because we are moving towards being more digital does not mean the hands-on stuff is gone. Part of science will always be about learning through experiences.
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to the start of an exciting school year! In Science and Engineering class, your 6th grader will be diving into hands-on activities that connect engineering, science, and society. During August and September, we will focus on how engineers solve problems and how their work impacts the world around us.
What We’ll Be Doing
Building simple models to represent natural and engineered systems.
Working in teams to design solutions for classroom engineering challenges.
Reflecting on how real-world engineers make decisions that affect people and communities.
Recording and analyzing data to see how designs can be improved.
How You Can Support at Home
Ask your student to explain their design ideas and encourage them to think about how their solutions might impact others.
Point out real-life examples of engineering in your community (bridges, buildings, water systems, technology).
Encourage curiosity! Let them explore how things work by observing, questioning, and problem-solving at home.
Reminders
Please make sure your student brings their notebook and Chromebook daily.
Attendance and being on time are important—students often work in teams and don’t want to miss out on hands-on activities!
Communication is key—feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.
We are looking forward to a wonderful start to the year filled with creativity, teamwork, and discovery. Thank you for your continued support!

The 8th graders are learning all about The History of Life on Earth. Students will be doing investigations to understand how the Fossil Record and Geologic TImescale has affected life on Earth and how scientists determine the age of our Planet. This will be our Life Science section this quarter.
Newcomer 1 & 2 ESOL Class
Hello everyone, Mrs. Calvin here. Our year has started off with a bang! I have enjoyed meeting and getting to know all of your children! All of the students in the Newcomer Program have a subscription to Rosetta Stone to help accelerate their English. I encourage them to practice at home on the weekend, after school, or during extended vacations. The link to Rosetta Stone is located in Google Classroom on their Chromebooks. Practicing for 10 minutes every day is very beneficial.
We started off our year by learning how to open locks, use lockers and finding our way around an unfamiliar building. We reviewed many building rules and expectations during the first week. In my Newcomer 1 class, we started a new unit called “Nice to Meet You!” The students have learned common greetings, pronouns, numbers, and how to form basic sentences using “am, is, or are”. In my Newcomer 2 class we started a unit called “Here to Help”. We have reviewed how to tell time on analog clocks, using “have or need” to form sentences, analyzing cause and effect, and how to use possessive pronouns. We are preparing to read our first story about community helpers. We have had a busy first couple of weeks learning English!
Follow this link to become familiar with our student handbook! This should answer most questions you will have!
