Message from Dr. Iskric
Dear Roller Students and Families,
As we approach the holiday season, I want to take a moment to extend my warmest wishes to each of you. This time of year is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the successes we’ve achieved together and look forward to the bright future ahead.
Your dedication and support make our school community truly special. Whether it’s cheering on our students at events, engaging in classroom activities, or supporting one another, the Roller spirit shines brightly every day.
On behalf of the Steelton-Highspire School District, I wish you a safe, joyful, and restful holiday season. May this time be filled with laughter, love, and cherished memories with family and friends.
Thank you for being an integral part of our Roller family. Here’s to a fantastic new year ahead!
Happy Holidays,
Dr. Mick Iskric, Jr.

Exploring Opportunities: Hiram G. Andrews Center Visit Inspires Students
On December 12, the Special Education Department hosted a representative from the Hiram G. Andrews Center, a college in Johnstown dedicated to supporting students with disabilities. The center specializes in offering pre-employment transition services, education, counseling, evaluation, therapy, and physical rehabilitation in a fully accessible environment. Both students and parents attended the presentation to explore the campus and its comprehensive range of services. The event sparked interest among many students, and we look forward to seeing the opportunities this may create for their future.
From Rivals to Teammates: The Revival of Steelton-Highspire Wrestling
In 1994, during the wrestling district quarter-finals, Steelton-Highspire’s JT Senior (25-2) faced Tony Gish (34-2) from Hershey High. Both wrestlers were ranked in the top four in the District, setting the stage for an epic showdown.
When the final whistle blew, Gish emerged victorious, capitalizing on a late takedown and two near-fall points to secure a narrow but hard-fought win. Gish went on to place fourth in the District, while Senior fell just short of qualifying for states. This unforgettable encounter ultimately became a catalyst for the revival of Steel-High's wrestling program, as both wrestlers would later return as coaches and close friends.
Gish reflected "JT Senior is a Steelton legend and one of the best coaches I’ve ever worked with. His pride and love for this community are unmatched. The enthusiasm and passion he brings to our students and wrestlers on a daily basis truly inspires me!"
The main objective of the program is to build a wrestling family that is united with all other sports and coaches within the community. Looking ahead to next year, we are actively seeking volunteers to help launch an elementary program, as well as a girls' wrestling program. With the PIAA recognizing girls’ wrestling as an official high school sport, we plan to introduce a girls' team next year. This will require significant effort, and we encourage family members to get involved, learn the sport, and assist with all our programs.

Neide, also in 8th grade, secured second place with her "Batman Turkey," while Zuleika, another 8th grader, earned third place with her "Minion Turkey."
