Soaring to Success! 10/9/20
Message from the Principal
Hello Eagle Families!
We are so excited to recognize so many of our hard-working Eagles this week! Our CRMS Honor Band has been selected by TMEA to be recognized after being judged from MS and HS bands from across the whole state. They join our CRMS Boys Choir who was also selected by TMEA earlier this year as an Honor Choir. This is the first time in school history that we have earned both of these accolades. As well, we have numerous students who are being honored for their performance on Duke Tip. Please see all the names listed below and join me in congratulating all of our Eagle students!
This month, we will also start having more activities on campus such as volleyball, cross country and football games. Please see the Athletic events update below. For full return including extracurricular events to be successful, it will require a total effort from all staff, students and community on campus to follow the protocols necessary to keep our doors open and move the year forward.
Please do not forget the following upcoming dates:
October 12th & 13th: Student Holiday/Staff development
November 3rd: Student Holiday/Staff development (Please note: this date was moved from Nov. 2nd to allow for voting safely on campus on Nov. 3rd.)
We hope you all have some time to rest and enjoy time with family or friends during this long 4-day weekend! Please remember when you return on Wednesday, 10/14/20 it is a B-day.
Thank you for your continued support of Canyon Ridge Middle School.
Go Eagles!

Candidates are invited to take the ACT or the SAT college entrance exams as seventh graders, which allows them greater insight into their academic abilities. In addition, they gain valuable benefits and have access to unique resources.
Destination Imagination
Do you like to build, design, invent, create, perform, and work with a team to solve challenges? If so, you might be interested in participating in Virtual Destination Imagination (DI). Virtual Destination ImagiNation (DI) is a virtual extracurricular, school- sponsored program that fosters creativity, team-based problem-solving skills and life skills for students. Leander ISD DI is open to all students in third through twelfth grades. The goal of DI is to cultivate the creative problem-solving process and make it an unconscious part of students’ everyday lives. This year, Destination Imagination will be done completely virtual. All meetings and tournaments will be held virtually. No live meetings will be permitted. If you would like to know more about virtual DI, click here.
If you are interested in participating in Virtual DI, you will need to submit a registration form. There are two ways to submit this form. One way is to print a copy of the 2020-2021 DI Student Registration Form, fill it out, and either scan and email it seema.george@leanderisd.org or return it to your campus. Another way to submit the form is fill out the Editable 2020-2021 DI Student Registration Form (it will force you to make a copy), save it, and email to seema.george@leanderisd.org
We need you to be an AVID tutor!
CRMS AVID needs AVID Tutors; the position is a virtual, part-time PAID role for the school year. We need tutors on B-days for 6th and 7th periods (9:30 AM - 12:05 PM) for only 2 days per week. The time commitment is minimal, so college students or parents working from home are ideal candidates.
We truly appreciate any help you can provide. Please email, jennifer.schuck@leanderisd.org with any questions.
Online Book Fair
The CRMS virtual book fair started this week! Check out these book trailers and order your books here. Scholastic is hosting a Fall Virtual Book Fair for CRMS October 5th-18th. It will all be online and books will be sent directly to your house.
Exam for Acceleration
Each year, LISD offers students an opportunity to take an Exam for Acceleration (EA) at no cost to the family. LISD offers multiple EA testing windows each school year. Click this link for more information and dates. Students and parents can request the exam through their grade level counselor. The next testing window and deadline to register is listed below.
Testing Window: December 1-3, 2020
Registration deadline: November 2, 2020
Logistics: Arranged with student's counselor & UTHS
Note: Students who pass an Exam for Acceleration in the December 2020 testing window will complete the 2020-2021 school year in his/her current class. Students will receive their acceleration in the 2021-2022 school year.
COVID-19 update for 2020/2021 school year: Currently grades 3-12 testing is only being administered online.
Eighth Grade PSAT - CANCELLED
In past years, 8th-grade students in Leander ISD were administered the PSAT 8/9 as part of the College Board’s SAT Suite of Assessments. This exam will not be given to 8th grade students this school year. This decision was made based on the need for proper spacing of students and the limited availability of space and proctors.
There will be no option to take the PSAT at home as this is not allowed by the College Board.
Current 8th-grade students will have an opportunity to take the PSAT 8/9 next year when in 9th-grade.
Please note: On the A/B calendar, we have October 29th as a PSAT/"C day" schedule. Even though we will not be doing PSAT, we will NOT be changing the A/B calendar and will instead utilize October 29th as a day for other campus activities to assist students as we approach the end of the second 6-weeks grading period. More detailed plans and information to come in October.
CRMS School Photo Day: October 29th
As we approach the Fall school picture day, we want to be certain that we have communicated our plans to photograph the students in attendance AND the students who have chosen virtual learning. As in the past, in-school students will be photographed with adjustments for physical distancing and protective wear on the part of the photographers. (Photo Texas school photos plan for 2020-21 including safety protocols.)
Arrangements are also being made to photograph your virtual students. Here is a Photo Texas Video of school photos plan outlining the process for outdoor photos. When photo dates are confirmed, a sign-up link and link for on-line prepayment for photos will be provided for these virtual families. Parents will bring students to an outdoor location at their scheduled time. Safety protocols will remain the same for outdoor and indoor photos.
Looking to Donate Items?
If you are wanting to donate and unsure how, we will gladly accept donations of bottled water, paper towels, hand sanitizer or Clorox wipes on campus.
Please note: there are COVID EPA requirements on certain products so please check those before purchasing. As long as the item meets the those requirements, is sealed and brand new, we can accept deliveries of donations during office hours on campus.
LEEF MUDstacle in 2020 is a Campus Competition!
Classroom Impact Team members who sign up using the monthly donation form at leeftx.org/mudstacle from September 21st through October 31st and enter their school name, will count for the competition. More details: https://leeftx.org/mudstacle/

DAILY Student Health Self-Screening & Checklist
Either a parent/guardian or the student is required to accurately complete and submit the CRMS Student Health Self-Screening & Checklist form EVERY morning before coming onto school property or getting on a school bus.

If you answered “YES” to ANY of the questions, you are to stay home. All screening information will be kept confidential by the campus administration and the campus nurse.
Students experiencing ANY of the symptoms from the list below, in a way that is not normal for the student, MUST REMAIN AT HOME and a parent/guardian should email the CRMS Attendance Clerk (CRMSAttendance@leanderisd.org) and provide the student’s Full Legal Name, Student ID Number, date and reason for absence.

Launch to Learning Guides and FAQ
As the upcoming school year takes shape, we want to ensure the information families need to make important decisions is easy to access in our Launch to Learning 2020-21 guides.
We know that our community still has questions, so we’ve worked hard at cultivating an expansive, updated FAQ section of the Launch to Learning site. The latest additions will be highlighted green for a few days and then moved into a queue under the appropriate heading.
